    A weekend in Melbourne ???

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Well

Looks like two weeks in Melbourne for some training...

Company wants to send me home for the weekend..

Wife has indicated she is happy for me to stay down and go looking at Coffee etc..

So that brings two things into play....

1: Anyone got a EM6910 that I could use when I am down there ? (May just take my Preso) ;)

2: Any one interested in having a CS crash out for two days and want to talk and look at Coffee ;D

Not confirmed as yet.... but looking at the about the 6th and 7th of June 2009...

Laughing is fine in Public... Offering the neighbors dog house is also OK... If you have a serious offer.. PM me as I do not want either of us to be put on the spot :D

Hey AM that displays a complete lack of imagination! Given that you have more than one 6910 (and therefore can maybe afford to put one at risk) here is the challenge :

You have to dismantle a 6910 and mail it piece by piece to yourself in Melbourne before you leave. Then you have to reassemble it in Melbourne using only whatever tools you can carry through the airport screening process.

If you can put it back together and make a cup of coffee with it to the satisfaction of another CS in Melbourne I will donate $50 to FairCrack. Maybe other snobs will sponsor the challenge to make it worth your while?

    giggled like a schoolgirl .....

Problem is that I would need a coffee before I could start to put it together..

Thus, knowing my luck, even getting the presso down and through security, might be an issue ;D

However, as you failed to indicated / define the number of pieces..

I could send it in ONE or Two boxes.. Main system, Water tank and Drip tray in another... Group Handle (signed by TA) as carry on..

Re assemble and using local grinds make a reasonable coffee for a fellow CS member... However as you in Brisy... You will have to take their word as to the quality of the final product ;)

Of course - a simple post to this thread would be proof of success.

I would leave it to you how many pieces but I dont think it would be much fun if you just took the water tank, pf, and drip tray off.

I just like the irony of smuggling an espresso machine to Melbourne. Bit like freighting ice to Alaska.

Lots of other challenges like what to do with it when your course is over. But I think taking a presso would remove the motivation to get it assembled.

Look if no one can come up with an offer... What choice do I have :D

    At this stage....

    1: Presso and or Instant
2: Two more trips via the Airport and strip searches...

Will have to give it a week and then cut my losses...

    AM,

Im more than happy to have a CS crashout and be seen in public with you, but Im not offering up my 6910 for you.

    Sorry.

I like the idea of the macgyver challenge though. Alternatively; make sure your accomodation is close to a reputable cafe. Enjoy having someone else make the coffee for you for once.

You are welcome to call in for a cuppa we are 1/2 hr from the city (in good traffic) and you can play with my 6910 but it must stay here.
    Where is your course located?

    Ha.

We live in the next suburb basically.
If you can get over to Wheelers Hill, you could drop in for a shot from the Expobar.

If the course is in Mt. Waverley, Id be surprised if they stuck you in the city. Theres quite a lot of the Quest style places popping up in the suburbs that seem to cater for a lot of this kind of thing.

Looks like the week of the 9th I will have access to a car... The week of the 1st, I will be dependant on others...

1: Staying in the CBD - Hilton on the Park ???
2: Work is at Mt Waverly

So will have a few evenings / late afternoons that may allow me to get out and about... ::)

For those that dont recognise me by my Avatar, I will be that silent shopper that some love to hate, after a review.... :o :o :o

Besides, why identify myself.... :-X 8-)

No CS discount on the coffee and some one will try to serve me crap... :P ;D

As to my own coffee, I guess I will have my Presso and home roasted beans... Along with a few cups for some of the local establishments...

Looks like the week of the 9th I will have access to a car... Thus should be able to make it to a common meeting place for a TEA... :D

The week of the 1st, I will be dependant on others... And will spend time getting to know the company and staff.

1: Staying in the CBD - Hilton on the Park
2: Work is at Mt Waverly

So in week 2 will have a few evenings / late afternoons that may allow me to get out and about...

For those that dont recognise me by my Avatar, I will be that silent shopper that some love to hate, after a review.... Besides, why identify myself....

No CS discount on the coffee and some one will try to serve me crap... Just to put it up me ;)

ACog has indicated he is interested in a meet and greet 8-) 8-) And I am sure there are one or two others who may be able to make it...

After week one, I will have a better understanding of what is available and the best methods of contacting me when down there... I may even have internet access 8-)

I expect to be very busy this week, so if others are interested in a meet and greet some time in the second week... I am more than willing to check out what gets sorted (next weekend) and to do my best to attend...

Just make sure ACog can match what he brought down to me yesterday and you will do very very nicely ;)

St Ali is a must do as is BBB, Di Bella, The Auction Rooms so many to get to. Luckily they are all with in a very short walk of the nearest Tram stop, if you grab a day pass it will be much easier for you than driving in Melbourne, doing hook turns then trying to get a carpark at under $10/2 hours.

Then there is Lygon St, Carlisle St and ..... You should go back home 5 kg heavier and be bouncing off the plane roof ;)

    Have fun :)

I watched hook turns for a week before driving in Melbourne then nearly got collected on my first attempt (his fault). >:(

Did it involve an amber/red light or did you wait for the lights to go green for the road you were turning into?

Hook turns are easy, not an issue for the person doing the hook turn, its the moron trying to run an orange or red light you have to watch for. >:(

Dont know about other states but we seem to have some really impatient drivers here in melbourne

But thats the thing, youre not meant to go when the lights go amber or red - youre meant to wait for the light to go green. No one does anymore. I think hook turns are easy too, I love them.

Nope - a hook turn means making a right hand turn from the kerbside lane so you dont block tram tracks

So Pleased I raised this now :D

Hook turns done properly by all involved are effective and work well, problem lies in when it is done wrong the drivers door of the car doing the hook turn is in the path of the impatient oncoming bastard trying to run a light :o

OK, back on topic, anything happening? Perhaps we can make a time and place to meet and if anyone shows up, well and good.

Perhaps tomorrow (saturday the 6th) mid morning at a city cafe? Venues could be:

    BBB, City (small, very small)
Seven Seeds, Carlton (the paint is still wet, I took a look yesterday, I love the job theyve done on this place)
    Auction Rooms, North Melb
    Di Bella, North Melb
Brunswick East Proj, in umm, Brunswick East

AM, Im PMing you my mobile, contact me if anything is worth knowing about.

Should have a Car next week and Tuesday and or Wednesday evening should be free... Will have my GPS and mapping app and should be able to get to most places... Well hope to be able...

So if any where is available.... Would be great... Did not have one good coffee the whole week...

I am even willing to drive to a CSs home and buy a cup or two next week... It was so bad I may well take the Presso..

    Night ALL.

    Night Andy

    Night KK

    Night Acog

Night Jim Bob.... We do have a jim bob dont we ?
