Thread: Transport for an ECM Giotto?

I bought a machine recently and got it shipped via TOLL. My machine was 32kg and it cost me about $130 from Melbourne to Tasmania - Only took two days to get here. I tried a few Courier companies but not being a regular user they couldnt help me. Try giving TOLL a call and they can quote you over the phone.

* Packing is Number 1. More important than anything else.
Whoever packs it in Sydney needs to be someone that knows how to pack it. Sturdy box, packed with rigid foam or other material so that the machine sits in the middle of the box with 2inches of space all around the machine and no possibility that it can move around within the box. It must be able to be turned upside down.
* Number 2 is who to transport it.
Dont use TNT. Repeat that 100 times.
I have used Air Road Direct and was pleased with them.
Some sponsors on here would have the best advice on who to use or not use :-)

Thanks, I guess the packaging will be the tricky bit, I know everything is doable at a price but Im wondering if the people who know how to pack it (site sponsor type) are going to want to be involved, as to pack it and forward it to me is not really what they are in business for?

They use TNT who would charge them about $50 including insurance for that...Add say $20 max for packaging....Nice little earner...

I didnt say they were cheap ;) Freight should be as Chris said $50-70 Syd/Adel. If the seller will pack it the bus freight works well and at least then it is not on the back of a Semi.

Another good choice is see if you can get a local furniture removalist with a load to or from Adelaide, they will wrap it in blankets and deliver for less than $230 :)

Well I just simulated it using 25kgs and cubic of 500x500x500 and came up with a price of $20.69.......

That doesnt include insurance though...

I had a cash register sent from Melbourne to Sydney for about the same price. Very expensive, but in their defense...

They called the pick up point and made an appointment, arrived on time and packaged the item (properly) too.

My couriers arrive whenever they want, toss packages in the back of the van, have managed to lose stuff, and when Ive called their customer relations line they NEVER return the call with an outcome.

Sorry. Didnt mean to turn it into another courier venting thread.

If you can get it boxed up with plenty of packaging under, around and above the unit, wrap it in black plastic so as not to invite theft, then tie the whole thing down on a skid (small wooden pallet) it *should* travel well.

Ive had good experience on the receiving end of stuff (packed at least) from pack-send

If I were you and its suitable id look into the expanding foam style of packing that they offer, certainly courier proof

Yeah- me too....In 18 months, they destroyed 4 or 5 machines all of which were on skids and then as an 08 Christmas present, they stole one...TNT rock! *::) [smiley=thumbdown.gif]

Packing is more important things than anything . Then another important thing is to choose good transport service providers . I have previously used stqtransport.com.au and got better fully satisfaction service from them .
