Re: Firefox, Google Chrome or Explorer

Firefox works great for me. Had no need to change. I changed over from IE because there was a week when IE was running like a dog. Apparently some security update was done on it which slowed it down. That is since sorted but in that time I got to love firefox. It is definately the faster browser of the two as well.

Havent used Chrome but the IT geeks at work say its ok.
If fact they say anything other than IE is ok.

I swapped over from IE to FireFox at work about a week ago. At worst its 3 times faster. Some pages that IE took 10 seconds to load, FireFox took less than half a second.
Also FireFox was a breeze to download and setup.

I have gone from Explorer to chrome and found it much faster for my setup. Chrome eliminates a lot of advertising (almost all i think).

Chrome is good, but I found there were some sites it just didnt like. Ive stuck with Firefox for now, but I tend just shift around a fair bit so will probably be on Chrome by the time you read this response :P

cheers guys for the responses so far. My main concerns were compatibility issues as much as functionality.

Maybe put the Laptop on Chrome, the Home PC on Firfox and the W98 clunker on Explorer :D

    IE8 suffers the same.

I use FF nearly everywhere now and the only gotcha is when you open it and it says "Im updating... WAIT". *No choice, it just does it. Still... its the best browser for me.

Found the same also. I think google are still ironing some of the creases in Chrome.

Re: Firefox, Google Chrome or Explorer

    You can always have both!

On the computer at work and home I have both IE and FF.
Some sites dont like FF. FF is alot stricter on HTML. Hence when a programmer gets lazy FF displays errors; IE lets it through or makes an assumption on what the programmer was intending.

When a site doesnt work on FF I just use IE.

Re: Firefox, Google Chrome or Explorer

There is an add-on for FF called "IE tab" that opens a site in a tab in FF but runs it as an IE window. You can even specify a list of sites that will always open that way so you dont have to specify each time.

Re: Firefox, Google Chrome or Explorer

I run IE8 and have done for a few weeks now, it is slower than FF but being an MS house at work we cant use FF because other microshaft products break when using FF or rather they are broken already and FF just displays the flaws.

So as a result my default browser is IE8 when i would rather it be FF.
FF is definitely the way to go though, it is a very good applicattion.

thanks for the tip Randy, Im an FF user as well but there is just one site on our intranet that it doesnt work with, thats fixed now!

Obviously id vote FF as my browser of choice for both PC and Mac. I use it on multiple computers and being able to keep all my bookmarks and passwords synced is easy with add-ons, plus there are loads of other options to make FF even more useful.

Faster than the others, and very customisable, Firefox wins for me!

Ive been using Chrome since it was released, and I love it. *Its much faster to load up than either Firefox or IE. *It initially had some problems when playing video, but those seem to all be solved. *The only thing I dont like is that it still doesnt work well with certain discussion forums (Too Much Coffee is the only one that I currently frequent where I have issues, but Ive also found a work-around, so it doesnt bother me too much).

(Even though Google is the new Evil Empire) Mostly Chrome, IE7 fallback and still have FF for testing sometimes.

    IE8 is just crap.
Since being guinnea pig at work i have found it to be the pig of all browsers even to the point where my default browser is FF even though i can only access our work intranet via IE, i keep saying no to IE wanting to be the default.
CS flies on FF but is like my dad behind the wheel of a car in IE ;D

After microshaft shafted me again (in no micro way) by updating me to IE8 (which as above have stated is just the most crap browser ever, and is even slower than 7...which is a feat in itself), I have finally got around to installing Firefox.

Much happier with Firefox. Pages are zooming on by when Id still be waiting for my home page on IE.

Im a Firefox user. Tried Chrome on its initial release on my old machine, but just didnt like the stepped scrolling. Stuck with firefox since then.
More importantly, new work laptop let me move to Ubuntu (& run Windows in a VM when I absolutely have to).

IE & Chrome both started out fast but after being installed for about a month slowed down considerably. Went back to FF

Firefox here - when you get used to some of the little add-ons it makes it harder and harder to make the change to anything else. At least weve a little competition in the browser game to keep tings fresh, which suffered after the initial Explorer v Netscape wars of old...

Cant beat firefox I reckon - love it. I used to use IE and changed to FF a couple of years ago and havent looked back. Andy points out the only issue with auto updates, but they are very quick and its just the essentials, add ons you can say no to.

    Cheers

I vote for good ole Safari on the Mac - doing web design, I havent come across a single issue with it yet, but FF doesnt like tables ( but Ive stopped using them anyway!) And IE - you think a company that big could get something right! :-X

I dont know that its attention to detail but rather the microshaft idea that their way of doing things is the norm. Websites we build in correct code work great in FF but have some quirks in IE, all very frustrating for sure.

Having a regular day job as well means that i have to use IE as the standard browser and found out the other day that i cannot open outlook web access to get to company email unless IE is the default browser. Bit of a pain having to change default browsers all the time but havent found utility to do that yet that works in vista.

    I use Chrome

I have noticed that Windows 7 and IE8 and Yabb forums it sometimes doesnt display all the posts in a thread, means you can make some silly mistake because you are totally unaware that there is more to read. It also takes a LONG time to load large forums.

Apparently its due to IE8 checking the whole page to see if needs to use IE7 compatibility mode.

    Aah, thanks SG

Did updates yesterday at work and got IE8, found it is a shocker.

Now I know why. Switched over instantly to Chrome.

    Microsoft withdraws offending puke ad

    http://www.smh.com.au/technology/biz-tech/microsoft-withdraws-offending-puke-ad-20090703-d73n.html

Microsoft has yanked a controversial ad for its Internet Explorer 8 browser - which features a woman vomiting several times - after an outcry among users.

I think the woman in the ad wasnt expressing an opinion about the product * :) *nor were the mentioned users trying to prevent any damage to M$s reputation *:-/

;D ;D As published by Microsoft...

Im an avid FF fan but have tried:

Opera - unstable on my 32bit Vista machine...

Chrome - well, lets just say Gmail loads faster in FF, contrary to Googles claims...

IE8 - bloated, slow, bloated, slow and bloated...

    Nice comparo HERE

I flick between Safari and FF, but probably jump for FF most.

If FF starts to run like a pig, then youve probably got too many add-ons installed.
