Someone with Gas knowledge needed - Urgently!!!!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I have bought my 5kg Toper LPG Coffee roasters but I am have a tuff time getting the machine connected to a LPG gas cylinder.

I have been to 4 specialist stores and all of these say they can not help.

    This is what I want.

The regulator that came with the roaster is a Jeavons J78R (Size Rc1/2) meaning it is 1/2" female connections. I want a hose that fits into the LPG gas cylinder (9kg) so that would be a POL connector on one end and I need the other end to be 1/2". the delma we are having is that the hose that was sold to me has the POL connection on one end but a 6mm male fitting on the other and we can not seem to fin anything that will fit onto the 6mm to bush it up to 1/2" as it seems to be another type of thread. One of the guys said I need a hudson to BSP adaptor but no one else knew what a hudson type fitting was.

If anyone has a 1/2" BSP fitting regulator to a L/H screw LPG gas bottle connection then please help and contact me. I want to get my roaster going. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Contact a Licensed Gas Fitter ASAP...

They have the knowledge and contacts for fittings and or coming up with another solution..

In many states... Fitting and modifying gas fittings and gas powered devices by yourself is a serious offence... If it goes wrong... Well, in most cases it is more than just the user that gets burnt / concussed... HURT.

I understand this but I have contacted a licensed person and they have come out to have a look but even they could not work out how to connect it. I have been to 4 specialty stores here in WA to ask them and they say they do not have the solution, so am running around in circles at the moment wondering what to do. :-/

    Umm interesting...

Must be some commercial places that look after Gas fired furnaces...

Would suggest the BBQ and other outlets are more about home appliances - Bunnings ;D

Google - Gas fired furnaces Perth.... Then a bit of drilling down should give you some useful contact

ever thought of changing the gas regulator to one with more universal fittings (or at least easily adaptable)? you may have to ask your gas fitter Re: its suitability to your appliance ie. Kpa input/Mj output. not too pricey IIRC around $50 (got my RegO 597 from gameco).

may the flame be with you.

    You may wish to consider:

A). Take hi quality pics of the connections you have
B). *Go to a source such as http://plumbing.hardwarestore.com/52-296-gas-connector-fittings.aspx and identify "what ya got & what ya need"
C). Let your fingers to the walking

And if that proves fruitless, get a qualified gas man to chop the bastard off and re-plumb/re-reg it!

Gameco here in Brisbane have an Aladins cave of gas stuff incl fittings. I had my gas tank tested there and spent an extra 20 min just looking. Let me know if you need someone to physically go in there.

The other option is go to an engineering works and get them to turn an adaptor for you.

Another possible source would be an RV or Marine outfitter/repairer. Around here theyll make up a custom pipe/fitting for your specific application. Tis how the Gothot managed to get connected to the LP tank after all the regular plumbers and gas fitters told me it couldnt be done. :)

Re: Someone with Gas knowledge needed - Urgently!!!!

Well I went to a hose specialist and they custom make hoses on the spot. I managed to get the connections to fitt but they did not necessarily deal in gas more hydraulics, air, water etc. I fitted it all up but still nothing, the roaster would not fire up. It states in manual if pressure is too low or too high then roaster will not fire up for safety.

II am really p*&^$ed as I got the connections made up with a 3 way valve to switch gas bottles on the fly but some of the connections leaked if I did not tighten them up to the max. so I went to just the single hose from LPG to cylinder and nothing. The hoses and connections and valve came to $325 so you can see why I am not happy :( $325 lighter in the pocket with something that still does not work. Can not return them either as all custom made. I will now have to start looking at other avenues such as commecial gas heater specialists maybe, Im not sure where to turn to. :( :( :(

At least my Gene Cafe roaster arrived today and it worked by just plugging it in.

Steve, surely there has to be another roaster not too far from yourself that could take a look and provide some advice or help? Perhaps a call to the importers too?

On the bright side, although frustrating, this is a teething problem. And for a variety of reasons, weve all had them. One day youll look back on this and quietly laugh to yourself when someone is unhappy because their newly purchased espresso machine is not absolutely perfect! If only they knew what we went through to set-up our roasters!!

And now you also know why roasters are all given a name...they certainly have unique personalities, and yours is starting to show his/hers!

"Tightening to the max" doesnt sound good - be careful in your haste.

Re: Someone with Gas knowledge needed - Urgently!!!!

Just a thought from a household situation
We use a gas oven and cook top (so I am familiar with gas)

I remember when my sister moved into the new house & it had a gas oven she was at her wits end that it would not start & come or high water the next day she was going to buy a new one

This may be your answer as it was hers
Hold on to your horses I told her
    1) Light the oven
    2) Press in the temp control knob until the heat probe turns red from the flame
(this may take 5 to 10 seconds)

Problem fixed no new gas oven needed

Its a mandatory gas "cut off "safety feature so gas does not escape to fill a room

I know that may be a simple procedure but it may be your answer

Try it and get back to us

    KK

Re: Someone with Gas knowledge needed - Urgently!!!!

Well I struck a bit of luck today. *A Gas fitter come into work to fix an Airconditioning unit. *My property and services manager brought him down after he finished his job to come and have *a speak with me about my gas connection problems. *After explaining my delema he said that this should not be a problem and we will be able to get it up and running. *he said that he was the one that installed the gas installations at 5 senses in rockingham. *Who would have thought I would get a guy who knew what he was doing and has had previous coffee roasting installtion jobs before. *I feeling pretty happy right now. *Not long until Toby is up and running. *(Yes I have nicknamed him Toby) *;D Oh and the reason I was having so much trouble with getting LPG connection fittings to the reg is that it seems the previous owners converted it to natural gas but did not get the plates changed to reflect this.
