    This is NOT good weather!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
This morning, after a horror night of 72km/hr winds I woke up to a thick layer of dust covering everything inside and out and a bizarre orange sky. (I honestly thought I was going to be doing a Dorothy impression all of my own! Sometimes its not good to have a house 12 feet off the ground!)

I believe that this is what they experienced out in Broken Hill yesterday...

Its still blowing a howling gale here this morning...

    Anyone else dusty? *;D

Yep, definitely very orange here as well - visibility is down to about 200m or so.

About to go and drop the kidlets off at school / Care (I have the day off today - yay!) but will probably have to wash my car off beforehand, I suspect.

Still thick as ever here in Newcastle 8-). Makes for an interesting start to the day.
Wouldnt mind having the black out, could be fun... Apart from the cleanup afterwards.

bah, i had this all day yesterday in Canberra, then the car got washed off on the way home in a nasty thunderstorm, only for me to wake up this morning to an even WORSE dust storm in Sydney and MORE dust on my car.

    At least theres no Zombies.

I heard it was coming on the way home last night and was expecting to batten down the hatches after karate.
But when I got home Id found that some wild winds had already hit and blown the TV off the table on the verandah.

Im not down to 3 though as it still works (though it is a bit worse for wear).

Please gather up the dust and post it back to South Australia.

I dont know what the fuss is about. With so many people in Sydney not having ventured further west than the Great Divide to see the country, this presents a great experience: the countryside has come to them! 8-)

You can keep the sand, but the top soil is already in short supply so we would like it back.

Well, it is an amazing country in that the inland can travel to the coast! *;D

As I am convinced it has done today! Dust is just everywhere, how bizarre to drive out of the garage this morning and have the dust blow off the car! Thats how much there was on it! And now begins the clean up inside the house at least. Now, if only we can get some more rain to wash all the dust off everything outside! My outdoor movie screen is no longer white, its red! :o

I had one of our regular customers in today who told me that she was from Broken Hill orginally and that dust storms were pretty common and when I told her about the complete blackout, she nodded and said that shed seen that before too.

That picture of the HB is just amazing. Talk about eerie. Here are a few of my place early this morning...

I live on an absolute lakefront property...about 10m of grass from my front door to the edge of the lake. Seriously I couldnt see the lake between 5:30 to around 6:30am this morning when I woke up.
Then when leaving the house, there was an exact imprint of where my sunglasses had been on the bench inside when I picked them up...dust settled all over my benchtops inside...bloody everywhere.
Then couldnt see through my windscreen so had to go back in to get a bucket of water and squidgee.
Ive been eating mud all day (dirt + saliva in mouth = mud!)
Ill gladly send it back to SA if it promises to stay there.

    Hey Herbie and Missus...

All is good here...we did get a huge amount of rain over Christmas and New Year...I think about 180mm all up. Ive had water views over the levy bank for quite a while now. We didnt get cut off from anywhere and there only ended up being a minor flood here...

Our water actually goes from here out to Walget and into the Barwon/Darling river, not into the Castlereagh I dont believe. So, the flood waters that Coonamble have had, we wont be getting. Thankfully!

It has been pretty amazing...to think that we have gone literally from fire to flood in the space of a week is just a little bit mind boggling really! And not to mention the beautiful green of fresh grass, or the huge mozzies! Sheeze...I could do without those I can tell you!

Whilst 70mm in a 24 hour period may not seem like much, for us out here on the plains, it is a heck of a lot!

This is the back of my property, the fence is my boundary. Normally, the lagoon is well beyond it. This has been taken from the top of the levy bank which surrounds our town and protects from floods.

So, all is good here and thanks for asking after me and thanks for sending out your best wishes as well, it is appreciated!

    Take care...

Those mozies can be a right pain for teh livestock as well... Needless to say it is often worse once the waters start to recede......

Have not seen Coffee2Di4 around... Trust they did not try to come up via the inland roads...

PS... How is the coffee at work Vs home going... Real coffee and not any sissy drinks I trust ;D

Re: This is NOT good weather!

    Hi scoota gal,
Thanks so much for the fantastic reply to our post re the floods. Glad the media had their geographical positioning wrong and you will not be flooded out. Sorry for the delay in posting a reply but the dairyfarm has been very demanding in this hot weather of 40+ degrees.
Fantastic photos scoots. [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif] Thanks for sharing then with we CSers. Water. Wow!!! and 7 inches of rain is fab. Our total rainfall for 2009 was a mere 10 inches. We are as dry as. Dust like Dakar at times.
Consequently we are looking forward to seeing water, water and more water on our trip to the South Island of N.Z. next week. A return trip to Lake Tekapo and the fantastic views of water and coffee at the Astro Cafe is definitely on the cards. The Missus has spent ages searching the posts from C.Ss and other websites for good coffee in the South Island. So heres hoping. We shall report when back if we find any new places with good coffee not mentioned before. Enjoy those coffees. :) Herbie.

AM...What the heck is a "barista voice"? :-/ ;D Thats a crack up of a sign though...where can I get one of those from!?

Herbie...yes, I saw that you folk were actually under a fire weather warning the past week, whilst we were experiencing floods. Its just an amazing country we live in isnt it! I feel for you guys running a dairy on such a small rainfall and I sure hope you get a nice bit of rain at some stage. Enjoy your trip to EnZed, I reckon youll get to see a bit of rain whilst your there, guaranteed! ;D

With river flow, I guess you could say that most rivers up here tend to flow east to west, once youre over the Great Dividing Range and once they are west enough, they tend to flow north to south...I have never looked into why but it could be worth a google, it is after all the fount of all knowledge!
