Slow page loading on this website.

Not sure if this problem only happens to me, but here goes... it,s a bit frustrating waiting for pages to load up on this website, is there a reason for this? Does anyone else have this problem? It,s okay if it,s the weekend and you have time to spare and can look at other windows while the page is loading, but if you,re in a hurry and want some information or give information quickly, it,s annoying. A positive solution to this would be appreciated.

One thing i found put, is that any thread that has many replies take much longer than those that only have a few replies. Takes up to a minute for those with more than 50 replies. Any way that can speed up the downloading process as i,m already on ADSL2.

Re: Slow page loading on this website.

    Hi all

I find the site very slow to update "Mark all as read" and to logout. Sometimes marking boards as read will just take several minutes and the same with logout so I just kill the site.
My perception is that its faster on Windows with Firefox than on Linux with Firefox. So sometimes I have to go to Windows to make the threads as read. Rather annoying.

Page loading is I think OK given the numbers of pics on some pages.

Try switching DNS servers in your system, might speed up things. Google for example uses 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8

    Instructions here Gary

Tread warily and be sure to keep a record of the current server addresses in case you need to revert. ;)

Re: Slow page loading on this website.

The most common cause of slow page loads on here that Ive found are from broken links. Commonly occurring with peoples icons. When a linked page/file is not found your browser keeps trying to download it until it eventually times out. How long it takes until the bad link eventually times out is determined by your browser or OS settings and has nothing to do with the site you are attempting to view.

Re: Slow page loading on this website.

Everything loads very quickly for me, rarely do I have to wait for anything other than some of the very heavy photo threads--and then its only a few seconds.

The "mark as read" happens so fast that I cant get to the "back" button before its finished.

Unfortunately the theoretical speeds for ADSL2 are rarely fulfilled. I suggest an "internet speed test" to see what you actually get.

Re: Slow page loading on this website.

Quick testing from here and it appears that your ISP is the lag.

Tracing back to your machine the ISPs gateway is adding lag of 150ms-250ms when I tested it. *Testing from overseas it was 500ms+ and even had timeout errors.

Maybe your ISP is just busy at the moment or they might be running a proxy so all the requests are going there first.

There are many things that might cause the slowness and most of the time its a little bit of all of them that causes a lag. *

So sorry no "positive solution to this" (or magic bean).

    You could try..

    Click:
    [Start][Run]

    cmd

    then type:

    ping 203.63.121.105 (then enter)

It should reply with something like:

Pinging 203.63.121.105 with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 203.63.121.105: bytes=32 time=40ms TTL=239
    Reply from 203.63.121.105: bytes=32 time=41ms TTL=239
    Reply from 203.63.121.105: bytes=32 time=42ms TTL=239
    Reply from 203.63.121.105: bytes=32 time=39ms TTL=239

Let us know what you get.

    Time for bed Andy ;)

    Tracert is handy... As well.

A standard ping gives me almost what you posted...

A trace dropped a outlier on me...

    MMmmm...Magic Bean...
Where was i? Excuse me while i wipe this drool off my noggin.
    Thanks for your help Andy.

Here,s what i came up with this morning:
    Reply from 203.63.121.105: bytes=32 time=96ms TTL=239
    Reply from 203.63.121.105: bytes=32 time=96ms TTL=239

    Reply from 203.63.121.105: bytes=32 time=97ms TTL=239

How,s that result to you? My PC is using wired connection.

The problem only happens on Internet Explorer, I didnt have any problems with Mozilla Firefox though. Greg, I did a number of internet tests (local) and came up with average of 5.7MB download and 398kb upload. Should be just enough ehh? ;D

Oh Anger Management, tell me about lag, i,m no stranger to it. Especially in WA when it comes to online gaming. If i play late at night after work, i get to play with all these friendly people on the other side of the world who, due to the massive population difference, dominate the hosting of games, so here i am getting killed by ppl who are 1/2 second quicker than me, and 1/2 seconds is a very long time in internet gaming. Also doesnt help when my Playstation is on wireless.

    Happy roasting. Gary

1: If only with IE then a setting or a proxy or one of those strange addins is getting in teh way....

With so many hidden addins / scripts / add counters etc etc etc let alone tool bars that are capturing data for their overlords ....

Unless you run a script blocker and take control; then you at the mercy of who ever wants you ;D :D ;) :-?

Thus FF and Script blockers and NO Tool-bars and then run PeerGuardian and a few other toold to scower ya reg and clean up and you will be OK...

2: What Only 1/2 a sec... That is a bit of a small head start... Some times 2/3 here and that is a pain as some servers will kick ya...

My son in is hey day was still able to be in the top 6 fighter pilots in the world (BF1942 and BF2) with a significant lag handicap... But today it is getting harder...

Love it when ya pop up and shoot some one and then your dead ;) :D ;D :o :o :o Bugger almost a second late ::) ::) :P LAG... I hate LAG.

Run a trace and just see what ya discover... But my guess is garbage attached to IE.

HAHA...I hope you are good at your anger management as your name suggests on gaming. ;D. Ill just stick to Mozilla Firefox as my browser for this website for now as i,m quite happy with it.

Anyway, if anyone,s on PS3, my gamertag is "sidewayss". Playing COD4 and MW2. Waiting for the upcoming WRC(World Rally Chamnpionship) game late in the year, or next year, maybe. Also still waiting and saving up for the FZ-RR baby roaster...ohh the anticipation of it all!!

    Happy roasting...and gaming.

TOG and AGB are teh clans... Guess as to my Tag ;D

Now Star craft... Buts that another topic ;)

Fire Fox and Chrome are the two I use for most stuff... Have a few very clunky ones; that I did tend to use when accessing sites that were UN trustworthy...

Interesting that CS is usualy a fast site... But if there are funny broken links / banners etc then it can bog me a bit... AND when I am syncing my NAS and off line backup... CS will not even refresh... Yet some other sites will sort of work.

PS. Always check ya ping when doing a last second snipe on Auction sites... Handy to check for any lag... Been caught there big time :o

The address that you were pinging is my ISPs gateway machine (as you cannot ping the CoffeeSnobs server directly as its in their data centre behind a firewall).

That is a fair speed for cross country. I dont think your internet speed is the problem. ISP auto or transparent cache might be though.

    Hi all,
I,ve only had this problem for a couple of days on internet explorer. Seems ok now. Mozilla still the prefered choice.
Umm Andy, what,s "ISP auto and Transparent cache" mean? Thought u might be able to reveal what those mean otherwise i can ring up the ISP to find out. Good to know not many of us here have problems with the website downloading.
    Did the speedtest. All ok.
Oh, we do get carried away with the gaming topics, and lag is just one topic to cover. Coffee and gaming, for some of us out there, a real passionate undertaking.

    Happy roasting and gaming. ;)

I was about to start a new thread about slowness, and came across one already started.

Yep, Ive got 2 gig of ram on this laptop, and 3 gig on the desktop, and both are freezing over accessing this site. Doesnt happen to other sites, just coffeesnobs.

Screen goes white and stops responding.

Being a hard working member of the hospitality industry, my slim wallet doesnt allow me to have two consoles in the household, though i am aware of the superior online gaming support that Live has.
MW2 addict all the way too. But COD4 is the better game. Guns sounds like they should.

    Regards, Gary ;)
