I broke some plastic need some filler / exopy / ???

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I broke a bit of plastic on my Brugentti its the end plate that holds the control panel area. it had been broken prior to me getting the machine and i braced it as you cna see in the pic.....

I need some sort of "knead - it" putty to fill the broken area and allow me to drill through to have mounting holes....

i was going to brace it as well with a bit of metal (mounting area)

so need something that will bond to the hard plastic (and metal)

    any thoughts
i can get new ones but am waiting till after the removal men take ti to Brisbane..... (just in case)

Simplest way is to but and bolt the bits of Aluminium? through the plastic with washers to spread the load a bit.

Biggest problem with bonding metal to the plastic is a lot of plastics will not key well to epoxies. There are however some 2 part plastic mixes that might do the job.

It can be done properly if you like too by making a latex mold of part of the edge that is ok then placing the mold over the broken bit.

Good source for materials and advice is these guys

Nuts and bolts for a quick fix then buy the new bit I still think ;)

    hmmmm

what about epxoy in some solid square plastic where metal is
then some putty for the cracked out bits
    drill though and bolt in...

good point about the plastic / metal bonding....

actually gluing in a massive piece in the middle section of 10mm plastic would really strengthen it

i am going to add some steel in another area of the machine to brace the front anyway. The design is really poor in the front end of this machine in bracing this area as many people put there hand on this section when inserting the Ghandle to lock in......

sikaflex should get you out of trouble

Give them a ring and see what they recommend. It is used to glue boats and cars together so it should be strong enough for a coffee machine ;)

By far the best epoxy Ive used is JB Weld. Ive made stuff from plumbing pieces to exhaust manifolds on motorcycles.

When cured its good to 300C+ and waterproof. Can be machined and drilled and tapped.

Good car shops seem to be the most reliable stockists.

For plastic there are material-specific super glues and epoxy for plastic. Be sure they specifically say for plastic. Use the super glue to first hold the parts together and then use the epoxy on the backside to reinforce. I have used the plastic stuff numerous times and it works GREAT! J.B. Weld is was specifically formulated for metal.
