World’s Largest and Most Expensive Family Home Completed

It may be the worlds largest family home but its also ugly :D

Snip: The “Greenest of All Buildings” was recently completed in Mumbai, India and we couldn’t be more appalled. The Antilia house which unveiled its first renderings just over two-years ago has become a frightening reality, egregiously boasting 27 stories at 568 feet high, with a total area of over 398,000 square feet of living space. What at first glimpse looks and sounds like a typical skyscraper is far from it – the Antilla is in fact a $1 billion family home built for India’s richest man (and Forbes’ fourth richest man) Mukesh Ambani, his wife, and three children. Constructed within a country estimated to have one-third of the world’s poorest population, the Antilia truly exemplifies the disease of excessive consumption, extreme wastefulness, and unsustainable living that is permeating today’s society.

Re: World’s Largest and Most Expensive Family Home Completed

My first impression is that it looks like it needs another billion to be completed. $1 billion? Must be african dollars. Inflation in parts of that country means you need a wheelbarrow full of money to be a loaf of bread.
From what i read, a few hundred workers is needed to service the house and family. :-?
The more i look at it, the uglier it is.

The only question here is "what were they thinking?"

Looks like we have a new candidate for worlds ugliest building. I think this is the previous title holder

The trouble is the owner lives inside and doesnt have to look at it.

$1 billion? Must be african dollars

    from wikipedia

According to Reliance Industries, Antilia cost between US$50–70 million to build.

Media reports have speculated that, due to land values in Mumbai increasing since construction began, the tower may now be worth as much as US$1 billion.

Re: World’s Largest and Most Expensive Family Home Completed

Just over 20 years ago, when I worked in a bank, I had a customer who spent $1M on constructing a house out Menai way.
That did not include land purchase costs.
Ive never seen it in its finished state but remember looking at the building plans.
The basement plans showed where some supporting columns were; the place looked so huge the columns made the plans look like a picture of a football field with the columns being the goal posts. ;D

Like a lot of pointy things and the drivers of red sports cars they are just making up for a lack somewhere else.

Personally it is an abomination, partly because it is in a city and a society where people live in slums and survive on so little apart from being bloody ugly.

And, well mostly never know how much those hundreds of workers servicing the household are paid. The more i look at it, the more it looks like a unfinished puzzle. ::)
Flynn, that one u showed looks like something from Las Vegas where you have to walk up those stairs and fall into the centre shaft that takes you into the next dimension.
Justin, is that some kind of science complex? ;D

Its federation square in Melbourne Gary. According to the Fed Square website it is a melbourne meeting place. Perhaps the melbournians are unknowingly part of a giant experiment. Cant see any problem with that. Someone has to give one for the team.

    27 stories for 5 people! :o Obscene!

Looks like it was modeled on a bunch of broken milk crates stacked on top of each other.
