I always find it interesting to gauge the type of people who use a particular forum. I was just looking through the What do Coffee Snobs do for a crust thread and was interested to see the wide range of people from different professions posting here! It really does make for a great community. Anyway this led me to ask, are there many other students using the CS forum? If so, where and what are you studying?

I am currently in my fourth year of degrees in chemical engineering and finance at the University of Western Australia. With exams fast approaching, i have probably been doing less study than i should be, but my new found desire to make the perfect espresso is so time consuming :P Between the hours of reading and time spent experimenting, there isnt much residual to study chemical thermodynamics or corporate income tax :-/

Are we talking under 25 here and full time students? coz I dont remember being able to afford $1500 on a coffee machine between the age of 17 and 21 whilst I was doing my batchelor degree in Civil Aviation full time. :(

Im doing a combined degree, 6 years all up and will graduate with two degrees. Yea, they might seem like pretty different fields, but the business aspect of my studies will hopefully act as a step to working in more of an engineering management role. That, and i am genuinely interested in economics and finance, even if it does not directly help me career-wise.

21, almost 22 here. I can afford shiny toys like my coffee machine and my motorbike because I dont spend all my money on alcohol + taxis every weekend :)

Am 49 and in the first year of a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Counselling) degree, doing it part time in conjunction with working nights. Coffee and cans of V helpful.

Knowing the workload on a part time basis, I have nothing but admiration for those who study full time.

That always helps :) Certainly when i just turned 18 this described my weekends pretty well, but these days there are so many things Id rather do than go to a club where we can barely talk and i only find it fun after a few (or 4 or 5) tequila shots :P Especially with uni becoming pretty full-on in the last few semesters, i really cant afford to go out on Saturday and then spend half of Sunday recovering. But as you say, it really does help the bank account :)

Wow that is a long time since graduating from high school to jump back into study! Good on you though, i think its great that people can engage in higher education as a mature age student. Is this to further your current career path, or are you changing direction altogether?

Did ease back in about 5 1/2 years back via a basic 6 month Cert III through Tafe, then followed that with a Diploma in Alcohol & Drugs in conjunction with a Cert IV in Mental Health, also at TAFE. That course of study plus involvement in other areas helped me see that I had abilities in the counselling field. That sent me towards my current work (at a homeless mens hostel - it pays the bills). The degree is not necessarily specific to my current employment, but Ive certainly had opportunity here to practice the disciplines and skills which will be required when I end up working in whatever field.

Specifically where I am not quite sure, there are a number of areas which are very personal to me and I am very passionate about working in. I will do the study and where I end up will happen as a matter of course.

Haha, yep Urbanspoon is pretty much the first place i go to whenever somebody invites me out for dinner :) Just so i know what to expect ;D

I was in a different group to El, but we worked quite a bit with her group anyway. Is it still the mixing tank assignment? I do have mine somewhere, probably on my old computer, but i can dig it out.

That always helps. Certainly when i just turned 18 this described my weekends pretty well, but these days there are so many things Id rather do than go to a club where we can barely talk and i only find it fun after a few (or 4 or 5) tequila shots. Priorities change a lot from when you are freshly legal :P Clubbing isnt really much fun at all, I would much rather have a few drinks at home with some decent music and good company.

I would just like to use this thread to vent my excitement about starting full-time work and having a salary next year. I am so excited!

Haha i feel your excitement; even though i still have just over 2 years to go, i am very eager to get myself into a full time job :D Uni isnt too bad, it can be very easy going sometimes, but it gets a bit old after a few years :P

I agree the first few times i went clubbing i was wondering how people could do this every weekend... Cant hold a conversation and all you do is dance. I definitely agree that good company is far more enjoyable, especially with good food ;D

I think i did every weekend for about a month and that was enough of frequent clubbing for me I had a laugh. Then it went to every few weeks, and then once every few months, and now rarely.

Speaking of good food and good company, have you ever been to Restaurant Amusť? I went not long ago for their degustation, and it was amazing. I reckon degustations are great fun with a group of people who are interested in food and cooking.

I agree the first few times i went clubbing i was wondering how people could do this every weekend... Cant hold a conversation and all you do is dance. I definitely agree that good company is far more enjoyable, especially with good food* ;D

I remember the first time i went clubbing i didnt even get foot into a club, friend puked and i took him back to his hotel ;D. Subsequent visits were kinda meh and i probably only go once or twice a year (the odd friends bday that ends up at a club)

Oh my poor wallet, degustations are expensive aaaahhhhh. Yeah i really dont want to be spending $125. I went to Jacksons dego with my rents since they were paying =p but with friends its definitely somewhere easier on the wallet.

Post graduate study (orthodontics, hopefully!) yes, but dental students dont do an internship as such, unlike medical students.

Funny how that works... While it has been a LONG time since I had to write a paper, years later I ended up owning a small newspaper. I sat down one day because I needed a filler article. I decided to write an article on the causes of the American Civil War. Ended up being 12 pages.. single spaced!

I thought much the same way towards memorizing poetry... Now, as an amateur blues musician, I wish I had done more to train my memory so I could remember words to songs better... d

Hello there, currently doing a degree in Engineering and Computer Science at UWA and in response to an earlier post I also hate MCTX3421 with a burning passion. I happened to stumble upon this thread by sheer chance as I am currently in panic mode trying to get this lab write up done for control systems.

    Either way hello all!

Haha! Luckily for me, I dont envisage the skill of writing to be part of my career roles. Nor is it required for any of my hobbies :)

Last two exams today and Friday! Then the waiting game for job offers begins....

Haha cant get away from it* ;) In saying that though, i actually dont mind writing when there is some motivation other than trying to pass a class at uni; there is something satisfying about putting together a good piece of text* ::)
