Dodgy seller warning - buanacoffees.com

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
While its not hard to find dodgy sellers and scammers on the internet this one is pretending to be located in Brisbane

Some quick research and there are lots of alarm bells.

The domain is registered in Mumbai, India.
Hosted in the USA
Pretending to be located in Brisbane CBD
The prices are in US$ (not AU$)
Weights are in pound not kilo
I cannot find any company business or tax registration in Australia.
The phone number format is odd
Near all the user reviews are in broken English and only a couple of words.
The user review for someone who bought a $16k Marzocco Mistral was "If you want a good HOT cup of coffee, Buy this!!!"
Thanks to CSr David in the UK for the heads-up.

If anyone manages to buy a:

Rocket Giotto Premium Plus - $1100
New Izzo Alex Duetto II - $1200

Let me know, I could do with a few dozen machines at that price.

Okay, going off gut instinct here, "it seems a scam" because it looks too good to be true, However.

The server being hosted in the US is not too unusual from my perspective. Same again with the URL being registered in Mumbai

The phone number is a little whacky, but it could be that theyre not used to the extra zero leading the area code, the rest fits in with the area its proposed to be

The building has an ING sign out the front, yes, but it is a block of offices, sub-let to many organisations, Without going into it too far, On the face of it, it could be just someone who doesnt really know how to design a webpage properly.

However, The lack of ABN and odd pricing is really raising eyebrows here.* ;D

I was about to put in an order for a $1250 Isomac La Mondiale and a $563 Elektra Nino grinder with air cooled 500rpm motor and at checkout noticed that there is a $330 flat rate shipping charge PER ITEM! Obviously shipping from overseas... if they ship anything at all. Needless to say... I did not go through with the purchase. Even with the shipping it is simply too good to be true.

FYI Chris... it looks like you owe them $79200 for shipping alone ;)

The format for the phone number is correct for someone dialling into OZ from o/s. Our area codes leading zeroes are always dropped and the leading plus means "add your countrys international access prefix".

There must be a CSer working nearby. Anyone for a lunchtime walk?

The giveaway question was that they asked what color and sizes of Pasquini Livia 90s I sold. Idiots.. they should have known I dont sell anything! :D

Re: Dodgy seller warning - buanacoffees.com

So they have responded in the usual poor english to request a purchase order from us ::)

I replied requesting letters from the respective manufacturers to verify that they are actually distributors of the two machines. They ignored that one...

Mentioned that I turned up at their address and couldnt find them and that I have tried calling to discuss my purchase from them- also no response....

I found this forum while googling "buana coffee scam" because, not surprisingly, I found the pricing on what appears to be a sister site similarly suspicious.*

(apologies, but Im disallowed from posting links due to forum policy regarding members with less than 5 posts)

The only difference is a single s in the URL.* They identify their location to be Indonesia:

I do a lot of business in Jakarta and visit regularly. Indonesia is a hotbed for these types of scams. I found a website there selling Colnago road bikes at what looked like awesome prices. Always suspicious of Internet sellers I did some digging and discovered the scam. It's very similar to this one.

I came across the same website for the Colnago road bikes. the problem with these types of sites are a very large percentage of people who see them and know they are fake. But unfortunately a small percentage of people don't know and try and buy from it. It always seems to be those products such as expensive coffee machines high end bikes which are the scams. People are always looking for a cheaper price on these types of items but dont realise that at the end of the day 99.9% of the time if it seems a lot cheaper than it should be its to good to be true.

At every opportunity if i can i like to sight things before i buy them when items are so expensive such as bikes and coffee machines.

    Regards,

    Chris

I'm a little concerned after reading about this as I'm about to list a quality Italian machine for sale at an unusually low price as I'm moving overseas permanently very soon. I'm now concerned about creating suspicion by listing a low price so as to sell it quickly. I guess it's ok as I'm in Melbourne cbd and anybody interested can test it out for themselves.

I have had 3 indo scam sites selling "Kitesurfing Equipment" (empty boxes) taken down. The indo service providers Rhumaweb etc are very good, act immediately on notification. They normally hide behind an Aussie Secret domain name registrar service based out of Nobby Beach QLD. They are extremely unhelpful and reply 'come at us with a warrant' when informed of scammers under their registration details.
