CoffeeSnobs - Forum Software Upgrade 7th July.

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Today we are rolling out some new forum software.

Its a huge job to migrate 7 years of data to a totally different format but I hope that it goes smooth enough to leave the new forum running so we can shoot the bugs later.

CoffeeSnobs will be off air for most of the day starting at noon (AEST).

Feel free to post the bugs you find in this thread and we will work through them.

    Edited in later:
If anyone has trouble getting in please try this link first:

Looks nice and clean. One thing: please bring back the SHINING BEANS to indicate new posts since my last visit.

Will the avatars under our names be back?

    Hi rmoulynox,

Out of the box the new forum software vBulletin does not support display names and login names, this is something on our todo list. We should hopefully this resolved soon.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

I like the new colours, I have to say - white is so much easier for me to read!

All the bugs will be ironed out in time, as Dave said, I'm sure. You think you've got problems - I've reverted to my old username and lost my moderator status!!!

Looking forward to being able to be a naughty, naughty boy (girl) until it's all sorted out! *insert evil smiley here*

I have to agree with Di. White is much easier to read than the all green.

Hmm. My todo list is growing. We still have all the private messages.. We'll see if we can migrate them over from the old forum.

Well done with the migration. Still some work ahead I guess but coping with the change will keep us all fairly quiet for awhile.

vBulletin has some great thread tools and other features.
Any plans for an RSS feed ? (It is supported in earlier versions.)

DOB is incorrect in my UserCP/Profile. It appears to have imported the dates as mmddyyyy and taken month as day then restarted the month count when day reaches 13 (and presumably 25). So 13 August has translated to Jan 8.

Trying to get a list of subscribed threads in my userCP looks funny too but that might be my tablet's browser.

Nice work on the upgrade Andy. I agree with those before me, the white is a little harsh on the eyes - or maybe it's because the green is so dark?

    Hi dabber,

Thanks for the pick-up on the date of birth issue. I'll stick that on my list.

Subscribed threads isn't something that can be ported across from the old forum.
However on a happier note, a mobile friendly version is on the horizon.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

    Hi Dabber,
RSS threads is on the migration path for later in the week. It's quite a useful tool.

    Cheers,
    Dave.

It was a shock at first, however in a week or so we will all forget about it and love the new layout. At the end of the day its the coffee we all talk about

Currently we don't have the links to beanbay on the new site.. It can be accessed directly via the website http://beanbay.coffeesnobs.com.au/

Too bright! need my sunnies...darker is better...I'd even prefer it if you reverse the colour scheme to black background and white lettering! Us coffee drinkers tend to prefer the dark I think

New forum looks fresh, different, but doesnt look out of the ordinary. I guess familiarity will make it feel like home soon. Is there a way to change the colour scheme (some forums have this functionality)?

I noticed the new forum has a 50 PM limit. If the old PMs cant be transferred, can they be emailed to users so any info can be saved before they disappear completely?

edit: new forum easier to read on iphone, which is nice.

    Cheers

Not so much a bug perhaps as a quirk. When selecting 'Mark this forum read' it appears to mark all the messages read, but.....if you 'go back' on your browser the command doesn't take. You have to click on a link to go elsewhere on the site for the forum to actually be marked as read for you.

I guess we have to resubscribe to the threads? No biggie, but I notice there does not seem to be an option to get instant notification by email, only daily and weekly? Or am I missing not doing something right?

Also, some threads do not have pics anymore (eg the recent grinder fluro green refurb), is that because the images were on the forum (ie not linked to imageshack etc)?

    Cheers

    Hi Javaphile.
Going "back" is a browser navigation function. Most web designers hate them. You need to use website/webpage navigation to see the effect. "back" then "refresh" might work in some cases. I'm sure you knew this but like the rest of us you're overwhelmed by differentness. A coffee or two will fix it.

    Hi

I'm getting this javascript code at the top of the forum, above the green logo on the ome page.
    ); var sidebar_align = 'right'; var content_container_margin = parseInt('290px'); var sidebar_width = parseInt('270px'); //-->
and on the My profile page this:
    ); } else { document.write(''); document.write(''); document.write(''); document.write(''); document.write(''); document.write(''); document.write(''); document.write(''); } document.

    I'm using Firefox on Linux.

I've adjusted my screen brightness but I agree that a colour scheme choice would be nice...dark, darker and darkest...or CS9, CS10 or CS11! Just kidding. I think I'm getting used to it...still would prefer a warmer background though.

Incidentally I can't see a "preview post" button. Oops...just clicked on the "Go advanced" button and there are all the post icons as well as the "preview Post".

    Hi Mike
The code at the top is a known problem and a bug in your old version of Firefox.
    Firefox upgrade will fix it.

Other colour schemes will come, but prob not this month.
Adding more colour templates adds a whole lot of new variables and more things that can break.

I like the fact that all new posts are listed under, of all things, New Posts! But I miss the soft green colour. The bright white background hurts my eyes!
