    Quiet Coffeesnobs?

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Some of us Coffeesnobs are very talkative -- running at up to 8 posts a day.

Ive *just done a very quick survey and discovered that while we have more than 2200 members -- half have yet to *hit the keyboard in anger. *:-X * *Maybe they never will, as membership dates back a year or more without one single post.

Maybe they are waiting for the "right moment" *;) *

Maybe they just like to observe. Or perhaps are only in it for the green beans. :)

Now wouldnt it be a great exercise to start a thread: "What is your reason for joining and not posting yet" * * But methinks that would be self-defeating. *;D

Just an interesting observation for someone sitting out Iron Chef on a Saturday night. *

I left iron chef to come in here. Can only take so much of the rubbish fake prattling of the american accented dubbed japanese narrators.

For anyone whos interested, there will be a programme on Cream starting in a couple minutes.

This means I am out of here, sayonara.

It will be interesting to see who will replace Michiba next week as the new "Japanese Iron Chef". I looove Chen, he is just so groovy and always good for a laugh *;D

I sort of consider myself as a "quiet coffeesnob", but I enjoy reading all posts that everyone makes and helps when I need advice.

I love the iron chef - except for the nights when they do some pretty inhumane things.

    Hmmm....8.67posts per day...I must be slipping! :-[

Well you are streets ahead of Robusto so dont sweat it.

And youre also in front of me.

I admin another forum where my average is just a smidge lower per day than here and Im up to 8500 posts there.

Funny thing is, one of the members said years ago that he was "an infrequent poster" and now hes passed me and pulling away.

Quantity isnt important, its the content and relevance that count 8-)

    Re: Quiet Coffeesnobs?

Im averaging 0.5 posts/day, but I log on about 5 times a day to keep up with whats going on.
This forum has been instrumental in prompting me to buying a grinder (when funds arrive) and to haunt the garage sales for a bread maker.
A hell of a lot is to be learned here simply by sitting back and taking note of what the more experienced members have to say.
    Thanks to all.

    Re: Quiet Coffeesnobs?

There is a forum that Im on where people try to create the most number of posts. Its a real waste of other peoples time, when they are searching for good information.

The signal-to-noise ratio drops horribly when people are encouraged to post but have nothing helpful to say or great discussion questions.

The sorts of things that I value from a forum are:

    1. Personal opinions (good or bad about a particular product or service)
    2. Learnings or findings or observations
    3. Reviews of new products as well as ongoing commentary about a product after its been used for some time
    4. Pictures or illustrations
    5. Recommendations and reference stories
    6. Good humour
    7. Under moderated or poorly managed forums

The sorts of things that I prefer not to find on a forum:

    1. Personal attacks, e.g. name calling, etc.
    2. Unsubstantiated claims
    3. Off topic responses (except in the Off Topic area)
    4. Hidden agendas

I can probably think of a bunch of other things, but Im glad that I find this forum helpful in my pursuit of becoming a good home barista. :)

Thats a good list but I think you meant to put #7 in the negatives.

    Yep,

The two forums which I participate in a very well moderated...... and that is essential....

The other forum - Whirlpool- often becomes very passionate and starts to get very personal.... so the mods have to get into it big time. ::) ::)

The CS group are far more considerate and rarely (that Ive seen) go over the line..... but sometimes the mods do have to rearrange posts, remove double posts etc.... which they do very well.... and they do a great job at it. :)

    Re: Quiet Coffeesnobs?

I am a member of another forum which is an amazing community. We span about 5 countries and have become great friends. We send each other christmas cards, birthday cards and gifts.

It kept me going when I was really ill. Some members are hilariously funny and it gets a bit rude. Not the place for prudes though, some pretty serious topics get discussed too.
