    coffee related eBay items

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Hi, I noticed in the market section of this forum ebay links arent allowed. Does anyone else like the idea of a dedicated sticky thread to post them in? Another forum (home brewing) that I frequent has this and it works out quite well - not for advertising your own crap, but if you come across some coffee gear that other coffeesnobs may be interested in (especially if you dont plan on bidding yourself :)), it can come in handy.

    Sammus,

This site is provided through payments made by site sponsors.... and they are the only ones allowed to advertise their wares here..... that is in ANY thread.... not just the market area!

Do you really think it is fair to promote gear for sale on Evilbay..... and rob the site sponsors of income..... because I dont.

If you are anyone else wants to buy stuff of Evilbay.... fine.... but dont promote it here!

AHB is in the same boat and its kicking along fine. People trying to make a business cant post links without becoming a dedicated retailer, then they have to post in the retailer section. Im talking about collectors items, rare or second hand pieces.

Most of the retailers on ebay are more expensive than the sponsers, so I dont think theyd loose out at all - but what about for items they dont offer? like some classic old machine that is begging for a restoration by a mega enthusiast. Or what about for people who simply dont have the money to invest thousands in this hobby - there is plenty of second hand stuff that might get them started on a budget - where they otherwise wouldnt get to play the game we all love. I dont really thinks its as bad as your making it out.

This has been discussed before.... many, many times.

Do a search and you will find lots of threads..... and the answer is always the same NO!!!

This is a totally private site.... which individuals can join - on the condition they play by the rules....

I have personally bought lots from Evilbay..... some of which is coffee related. I just search the site every so often..... and bear in mind Evilbay is a commercial site..... the organisers charge fees to allow the sellers to advertise..... so why should they be allowed to advertise here as well for free....

There is a very fine line between what a sponsor sells and what would be appropriate to advertise here and not tread on a sponsors toes..... and that would be very hard to define and even harder to police..... a blanket "no" works well.... and IMHO doesnt really disadvantage anyone..... they can still search on Evilbay all they like.

Fair call. Guh I hate those damn fees, I recently sold something and lost over 10% of the final sale price in fees (ebay listing, final value, paypal...)

    Hi Sammus and all,

If Im looking at something in an auction site- be it rare or whatever, I really wouldnt want to be promoting it to, nor competing with a whole heap of people who may also want it- CSers included...

CS has very few rules which are not that tough to comply with. Andy has requested that no commercial links nor links to eBay promotions be posted here.....Given that its his site, I reckon thats pretty reasonable.

I think we might close this thread here, but I will refer it to the mod. team.

    Chris

This topic comes up about 3 times a year.

The answer is the same, the "cons" far outweigh the "pros" when it comes to pimping something that appears on ebay (or any other auction site) and the chance of us attracting spammers and scammers is way higher.

We have a for sale section here for real members selling real items at a fair price.

So, still no ebay for CS thanks.
