    Be tough!
Drink a horrible shot just for the caffeine.
Youll get over the taste and withdrawal symptoms then you can concentrate on getting it right.

Yuck :P Cant force myself to ever drink bad coffee. If its just the caffeine you need, then have a coke and try again later. Its always best to step away from the machine in these circumstances.

I hope Sunday will be a good coffee day for you ;)

"Step away from the machine and no one will get hurt!"

This could be said to many a cafe PBTM.

I got off to a bad start this morning...

Pulled out the beans, opened the seal-locked bag, and proceeded to pour them directly into the knock-box (with all of the spent pucks from the prior 48 hours)*:-[ :o

I figured I lost about 100 grams of the poor defenseless little buggers before I realised what I had done... reflexes arent what they should be at that hour of the morning *::)

Confession is good for the soul. And I confess that on more than one occasion I have poured beans into the doser, not the hopper. :-[

    Re: Bad coffee day....

Aw thats nothing compared to what happened to me yesterday. I guarantee.. I win in the grose stakes and Im almost too embarrassed to be telling this. Dont read any further if you have a delicate stomach!!

I had been racing around all day like a blue Rst fly running errands and coming home to do the big cleanup before the family walk back in the door. *I was hanging out for a coffee all day but needed to get everything done and put it off til Id finished. *By 2:30,.. I was quite hot (not sexy hot *;D) and tired as a result and decided it was time to make a nice coffee before picking up the kids from school. *

Poured an awesome double shot,.. created nice microfoam and proceeded with cup in hand to go sit at the computer to enjoy my coffee while reading the forum. Placed cup on desk right in front of me as I sat down, and in a split second I reached my right hand to the mouse as I looked down at my cup to get an eyefull of the rich crema on top of my coffee and plop there it was... a drop of blood *:o :o :o. *>:( *sinking through the beautiful layer of crema and into my coffee *:( :( followed quickly by a gush of drops everywhere,.around and on my cup grrrr as I frantically grabbed for the tissue box. It took a lot of willpower not to puke from the sight of blood in my coffee let me tellya. *I had a massive nose bleed that took me 30mins+ to stop (which I get occasionally when very hot),.. late picking up the kids from school and no coffee until about 4pm aaaargh.

So cmon how many of you have had a nose bleed in your coffee hey??? *I reckon I win *::) ;D

    Re: Bad coffee day....

Won that one by a nose! ;)

Hope you were not to weak to make another coffee. But the second one is never as good when you have made a great cup.

My mistake today was overdosing so much the PF seal broke and coffee went everywhere over the white tiles m - me the floor the sink and the machine. Just got it cleaned up before the wife came in - continued as if nothing had happened and did it again. So much for a quiet coffee after a bad day at work. [smiley=evil.gif] :(

But it all ended well. And nobody was hurt.

PS can anyone explain why when there are two of you in the house the knock box is always full and both claim to have emptied it???? One of lifes mysteries. :-/

Whaaahaaha... nope.. apart from gagging from just seeing the blood sink down through the crema,..I could do nothing else for 30mins other than hold my nose to try and stop the bleeding. Was not pretty. ::) ..... and I was pissssssssd... cos I was soooh looking forward to that coffee,..I never even got to have a sip of it :( :(

I did the usual wrap cloth around wand apply steam then clean, and dump used grinds into knockbox at the same time,.....*sigh* ....... measure out more beans into the hopper.. >:(

I noticed in the local paper today that Star*ucks were having a "Good Coffee Day" today..

FREE Star*ucks Coffee on "Good Coffee Day" Thu 8 May 2008 9-11AM

Star*ucks Good Coffee Day… On Thursday, 8 May, Star*ucks will be hosting “Good Coffee Day”. From 9:00 - 11:00 AM in all Star*ucks cafes across Australia, customers will be invited in for a complimentary tall cup (350 ml) of Cafe Estima Fairtrade Certified coffee. It is our way of celebrating good coffee, doing good for our coffee farmers and our communities.

Hmmmm Star*ucks and "Good Coffee" - probably the best definition of an oxymoron that I have seen yet. Im still laughing at the concept.

Shame I missed out... but I know where they can stick their TALL cup of swill. :-X

That sounds horrible. Id be especially wary about the fact that the only description of the coffee is that it is tall. Does it have milk? Is it strong? Weak? How exactly are you making this tall cup?

These are the warning signs that you should not be ordering coffee from a place. Im living in Wellington at the moment and the coffee scene down here is outrageously good. As such it isnt so hard to find a cafe that does a good brew.

However, now and then (more frequently than Id prefer) I go to check out a new place and get a situation like this:

[22a walks into a cosy little coffee shop]

Eager barista: Hello sir, what can I get for you today?

22a: Can I just get a long black thanks?

Eager barista: Certainly. Would you like milk with that?

[22a walks back out of the coffee shop]

There are a range of questions that send me back out the door. Others include "Would you like a regular or large?", and calling out back to the boss "Hey Mike, this guy wants a long black, how do I make that?". It is for situations like this that I think all CS members should own a pair of high quality running shoes. You need to get out that door as quick as possible.

I look at this and consider it an admission by *$s that their coffee for the remaining 365 days and 22 hours of 2008 is crap *;D

    Re: Bad coffee day....

Agreed. Though Im of the opinion that even giving it away for free still doesnt qualify it as good. In addition to a tall cup (empty, so I could use it for water perhaps), Starbucks would need to give me (in writing) a promise to pack up and leave Wellington for good.

Then, it would be a good coffee day.
