Not sure if it was the same company but a guy in WA bought a Citroen SM (about as many of them left here as chooks teeth) and the transport company did a bucketload of damage to it. Company has not been named publicly as court proceedings are proceeding.

Our company imports light fittings from Italy all the time and they manage to make it all that way unhurt.
Light fittings + a number of the bigger freight companies delivering interstate = many claims.
    nuff said.

Sure, they do get things in one peice a lot of the time, but the ratio of breakages is embarrassing.

I can sympathise with you Chris.

I sent some glasses and a carafe from Venice to home a few years ago.
They arrived in perfect condition from one side of the planet to the other.
    It can be done right.

Yeah- amazing that stock can be freighted 1/2 way around the world safely. Give it to TNT and it seems I have about a 15% chance of a shipment incurring damage of some sort. Damage and write offs of Talk Coffee TNT consignments in the last 6 months now total over $10,000 in stock.

We will be dumping TNT at the earliest possible opportunity and I encourage members, their families and their companies to do likewise. They just dont give a damn.

Needless that we paid our last TNT account quite sometime ago.

Chris, I can sympathise. Although I think Ive dealt with freight companies worse than that lot.

We are on our 4th Freight company for greens. They leave the brokers fine but are stuck on a freight forward in Qld. It has been a common occurance to have 2 bags per pallet half empty from them misshandling the palletts and ripping the bags.

Also had a driver who was so impatient he unloaded a 2Gp VBM Evolution off the back of his truck by himself by hand. Bent the entire front of the chassis, we had to cop that cost.

Ive found TNT bad, I dont use them, but there are much worse. It says alot about some companies attitudes towards customers.

We had a recent experiece with a phone company, where it was going to charge us $25 to change the name on an account, but we could tranfer the sim to another carrier for free. They would not drop the cost even when they had pointed out that we could change carrier at no cost.

Yep, we deal with TNT here using the Specialised Service for shipping PCs etc. I can relate to Chriss experiences - its really pathetic and Id avoid TNT as well if I could.

Hi Marc....Having experienced their service standard, Id think that specialised service refers to the same laughable apathy- albeit at a significantly higher charge...

We are moving to a new freight company this week. Hopefully the service level might improve

Re: The best freight company in the world- NOT!

Chris sent my Giotto to WA by TNT, and I have to say it turned up in one piece. However, they didnt deliver on the expected date (sat in Perth 3 days) and when they did deliver they just left it at the front door (no signature) - 5m from the public footpath.

Ive had numerous packages shipped by courier and currently Aust. Air Express (Aust Post) has been the best. Some others - e.g. DHL - use independent local couriers to deliver - and I have had to drive 30km to pick it up before they sent it back (to UK) after they said they tried to deliver (no note!) and I phoned them to try tracking it.

Seems to me it is probably more lucrative as a courier than dispensing coffee ;)

Re: The best freight company in the world- NOT!

As a technology reviewer, I have a stream of products delivered to me all the time. While most of the couriers Ive dealt with are fine, my last item - a very big one - was handled by TNT and took some hits along the way. The product sustained a bit of damage.
If anyone needs a courier with extra care, I can recommend COPE. They advertise themselves as sensitive freight specialists but I suspect they are not priced out of the market. They do take care with their stuff, and its probably worth it for delicate gear.

    Hi
I agree with flatwhite, COPE are really good. Also if you want to send something fragile why send it by cheap couriers who dont really care about small jobs. My family have been in transport doing specialized furniture removals for over 35 years and what we are finding is more people are sending items like catering equipment through them. one company who were using a general carrier for years to move there fridges and stuff finally changed due to constant scratches and breakages.
So as we all like to say here, try a local company who care about the job they do and do it properly.
And remember to have transit insurance because most transport companies dont unless you can prove negligence

Yes, COPE sounds good, but unless you spend over $1.5k per month on freight, they dont want to know you :(

That probably explains why one of my regular suppliers switched to TNT. They probably werent doing enough volume. I can assure you, however, theyll be trying to get them back after a couple of experiences!!

Re: The best freight company in the world- NOT!

at Work we deal with just about all freight companies in some way and they are all mostly usless
TNT isnt allowed to leave here until the consignment is checked and if damaged it goes back

NQX will squash anything smaller than a pallet of bricks, normally by balancing a pallet of bricks on top of it

Ipec seem to be very good with smaller parcels like single cartons up to 30kg, anything over that most places wont touch unles its on a skid and forklift loaded
