Proof readers in newspapers have been non existent for some years now. The journalists "check" their own stuff. Or do they. Mostly it is just a quick check for spelling.

Spellcheckers are a poor substitute for a proofreader.

    Examples:
    there/their/theyre
    to/too/two
    than/then
    of/have
loose instead of lose (an all too common error these days)

Love the poem FB. Hope you dont mind me borrowing that one too. Reminds me of the old school classic

"One Fine Day in the Middle of the night"

One fine day in the middle of the night
Two dead men got up to fight
Back to back they faced each other
Drew their swords and shot each other

One was blind and the other couldnt see
So they chose a dummy for a referee
A blind man went to see fair play
A dumb man went to shout "hooray!"

    A paralyzed donkey passing by
Kicked the blind man in the eye
Knocked him through a 9 inch wall
Into a dry ditch and drowned them all

A deaf policeman heard the noise
And came to arrest the 2 dead boys
If you dont believe this storys true
Ask the blind man, he saw it, too!

Though actually its not much like it at all in many ways i suppose.
