    As time passes

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Funny how as time goes by you become so complacent.
As some know I had a accident and have been not allowedback to wrok for some time now and thanks to insurance company getting worse as time progresses.
I rememeber when i first arrived here at CS I was so bright eyed busy tailed and awe inspired of all the machines, techniques and perfection.
After having killed a sunbeam, had a silvia, some other thing and then the Azkoyen Bravo, changed grinders about 4 times, and went thru a stage of building all kinds kinds of contraptions for roasting coffee.
Now Im down to a azzy one grinder and a gene thingybob, roast coffee maybe weekly, wander off come back cool toss it in the grinder grind some flick tamp lock load press button wait steam pour drink. Only thing I do now it try to get a different tasting coffee.
But, having said all that, at least my coffee kicks butt compared to friends!
Can never be too precise, but taking a break from being super precise can really do wonders for your techniques!
Anyway just stopped by to say hi more then anything else.
    So... HELLO!

    Howdy Sullo,

Hope your getting on top of things.

I relate to your post, I tend to go through life is phases of either extreme laid-backness or phases driven by a need for super precision.

Lately, [coffee wise] Im just enjoying the fruits of my last 12 months of super precision. Not being too fussy about grinder settings, tamping techniques or roastprofiles and simplyenjoying my coffee.
Of course the PID keeps things pretty well managed.

Once you get all these variables down, much of it becomes second nature and you sort of forget all the work you have put in, though, Ive noticed my tamping technique has slipped recently, the puck leans a little to one side.......so I may need a refresher to tamping 101.

Sometimes its good to stop and smell the rose-ted coffee!

Nah ... just adjust the feet on one side of your espresso machine to counter-balance the angle of the puck, & achieve a steady, balanced pour! ;D

    Welcome back, BTW, Sullo ;)

We take things in stride easier, and dont worry about the mundane, simple things that used to get our attention. Things come and go with much less worry and concern.

    Gday Sullo

Insurance (not to mention the actual injury) sagas like this can really put a dent in the spirit. I hope that things turn a corner soon and with that comes a refreshed mad scientist willing to try just about anything in the pursuit of better coffee. Though lets face it with the set up you have now you probably dont need to do much more experimenting (it just fun from our perspective to watch someone give it a go :))

thanks guys appreciate it, and yes that stormtrooper in the pic is actually me last year ;)
Unfort I can no longer wear that anymore until shoulder back neck thing is resolved, so I went further up the darkside!

I also have a full Darth Vader/ Darth Maul and currently building(as part of my mental therapy the doc calls it) a full life sized r2d2 thats radio controlled, and Im still considering putting in a coffee machine in him :D

Welcome back from the dark side, Sullo, good to hear from you. Yes, becoming obsessively perfect can be a pain, but only after you step back and realise it!!

    Re: As time passes

isnt that the truth, I went from being obsessive to "just give me coffee"!!! with a mad look in my eye ;)
Maybe Vader shouldve said, "You dont now the power of the roasted side" orsomething like that...
Sadly now my TK just stands guard over my machine now :( on a mannikin

    Re: As time passes

the only way Ive figured to do it in a way that works well is to destroy one of those auto type machines like hardly normal, mayne etc sell. Most of the construction of these is styrene plastic 3mm for most.
There are plans avail for a full aluminium r2 but the skins for his body are very costly and although Id really really really love a R2CaptogoD2 the pf type machines are still my fav,
    trust me Ive tryed!

If anyones seriously interested in this I could take it further, I love weird and odd projects, I just got a free electric wheelchair that will become a return of the jedi speeder bike for either me or kids or both!

    Re: As time passes

Im just racking my memory here as we used to buy sheets of aluminium for our aircraft, I cant remember what a sheet was worth...but Id guess that youre right, Sullo and say that they are costly...but...

What about some old aircraft panels??

    Re: As time passes

its more the cost cos the sheets are so thin and they must be laser cut as theres two layers of skins tomake R2 properly

heres where mines at currently hes a styrene droid awaiting me to get off my bum stop drinking coffee and finish him!

the two vertical squarish holes where vents are, would be a good place to put a coffee spout, and the 5 smaller slots are actually US quarter coin slots, so I could make him into a coin operated coffee machine.....

Damn you Andy! you got me thinking about doing this again!!! :D

    Re: As time passes

    Wow!!!! :D *Very impressed!!!

I have 2 young chaps (not normally interested in the discussions of CS - a tad too young), who will be absolutely rapt to see what youre making! *Our home is living and breathing Star Wars at the moment! *
I thought it might just be a phase, but Im guessing that you are roughly the height of my 2 little ewoks put together, so theres a fair chance were stuck with this for many years to come! ;) *Eeeek!

    Slowcoffee.

Coffee and Star Wars...Ive found the best website ever. ;D

Great costumes, I always fancied a Stormtrooper costume myself but only went as far as a lifesize cardboard cutout.
