    CoffeeSnobs everywhere!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight

My wife and I just got around to watching an episode of "Family Fortunes" that we recorded from the ABC a couple of weeks ago (15th July).

This particular episode was about the Brock family and some of the real story behind the media headlines after his passing. A great show. Anyway, when the camera panned across the footpath outside the court I spotted this...

Sounds like someone who might have played number plate bingo in their youth.

Great catch, Andy. When I read your post I saw that and thought "hello...weve got a guy here with that user name, it cant be...!"

Im a number plate reader too. You have to out here otherwise you find yourself waving at every other Toyota Landcruiser there is, whether you know them or not! ::) So, I read plates real quick and if I dont recognise the number, I dont wave!

Everyone seems to wave at me though...still cant figure why... :-/ ;D

    Re: CoffeeSnobs everywhere!

Yeah Im also a big number plate reader - AND I REMEMBER THEM! If you ask me what plate goes with which car, I dont know. But if I see a plate Ive seen before, I say to myself (or my passengers), "Hey, Ive driven behind this car before!" Kinda like when you meet someone whos a friend of a friend, not expecting to see them again, and then run into them sometime down the track and go, "Havent we met somewhere before."... yeah, I do that with number plates. ::)

Oh, and I often make them into words that dont exist. :-[

    Re: CoffeeSnobs everywhere!

On the subject of private plates, a couple of years ago, I applied for one for my (then) motorbike, a Suzuki GSXR1300R Hayabusa. *I applied for a plate that said Busa but it was rejected by the Western Australian Licensing Authority on the basis it was socially irresponsible and inconsistent with the WA Police Forces Road Safety strategies (ie: they thought the plate was actually saying "Boozer") *::)

So they offered me my money back or a different set of letters. *I took the latter option, choosing:

    ...I just couldnt resist *[smiley=evil.gif]

So the local law didnt do Hayabusa = Busa!
(and I cannot get boozer from Busa either)

Its great when you see the ones (like giggled like a schoolgirl) that snuck past those that get paid to reject them.

    I read a month ago....

Officials offer recall of offensive "WTF" plates

Officials in North Carolina are doing their best to clean up the mean streets of America by offering drivers the chance to trade in number plates that bear the potentially offensive letter combination "WTF".

According to the states Division of Motor Vehicles, almost 10,000 people have been driving around —possibly for years— with WTF licence plates.

But the government department only recently learned the letters were a common acronym for the vulgar phrase "What the f***?", the News & Observer of Raleigh newspaper reports.

The discovery was made by a 60-year-old teacher, whose grandchildren had clued her in to the hidden message in her number plate.

The shocked grandmother complained to the motoring agency, prompting the mass recall.

But is seems the Division of Motor vehicles has not done as thorough a job in cleaning up its own communications.

The department was shocked to discover this week the same letters appeared on the agencys own website in the form of a sample personalised plate.

"I cant believe it," DMV Commissioner Bill Gore told the newspaper when he heard about the online glitch. "Obviously, I didnt know it was there."

I checked the Vic Roads site and it will let you get them here as custom plates. ;-)

    http://www.vplates.com.au/

    According to Vic Roads...

There are a few (we think pretty reasonable) reasons why we might reject your plate application.
Mainly they revolve around inappropriate language and anything with a negative road safety conontation. While we love to have a good time, we take responsibility on the road very seriously.

We will not issue plates we think:

are likely to offend (for whatever reason); or

    send a negative message about safe driving or road safety;

So they keep it pretty open ended. The "negative message about safe driving" is interesting as there are plenty of [fastV8] type plates which could be viewed as not road safety friendly.

    Very interesting read Andy!

I recall when I had to pick these plates up, the senior clerk behind the counter really gave me the third degree, "What does it mean??? *Come on, it has to stand for something?"

On the spot, I thought up "Loud Mouthed, Fat And Obnoxious"... and she bought it (err... a little too quickly for my liking actually*:-?)

As she was off getting my change, a junior clerk (~20 years old) walked past, stopped and said "Wikkid! *I Cant believe you gottem!" *I thought my cover was blown!

So I gave him a wry wink and smile and quietly muttered a "Shhh".

He winked back and went about his business.

Meanwhile, the senior clerk came back, handed me my change and I high-tailed it outta there!

    Phewww - close call *:)
