    Sony Vista Drivers

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all
Has anyone got the vista drivers for a Sony VGN-SZ583N/C at all?
My laptop went belly up on Friday with corrupt Boot area and corrupt System32.
I rescued all data but none of the restore options (even from factory) would work, i only managed to rescue the data baecause of a reinstall disk from a slightly later model vaio.

According to Sony they dont distribute or sell them and i am not about to send the unit off for repair just so they can rebuild it complete with original factory setup and boot partition. Its already been a disruption to get the unit back to where it is fully functional (drivers not withstanding)

    Can anyone help?

    Mal

    Hey Bolb
A similar thing happened to me
    But even more drastic
I used a program called Recover my files
And it did the trick for me?

I suggest you go to there site and see if it can recover the file or application type and see if it is suitable for your needs

    Good Luck

I do lots of data recovery and with out the full story and or context *it is often hard to decipher what is wanted / actually required.

    As I read it you ;

1: Have recovered your data files
2: Wish to *rebuild / repair you Laptop to the way it was

    HAVE you tried here ? * http://www.sony.co.id/support/download/product/vgn-sz583n/modelfirst

With that in mind (if I am correct) you have two options open...

1: A special repair option, or
    2: A factory reinstall

For option 1: you will need the drivers and your original disks etc... *Further more as it is VISTA .. There will be problems :-)

When booting from the Boot Disk or one of many recovery tools, you could re format of your MBR which should recover, if it is possible.

***** Like every thing, there is a high chance that you could do more harm, so if possible make a true IMAGE of you system and back it it up...

From there you can do a repair option as part of a Vista recovery process and you might be lucky...

However *as it is the boot and system32 dir, it also appears to me that the root cause could be a driver / Virus or *Trojan... If you can, mount the drive as an external to another system and do a deep virus scan etc.

NOTE: *DO *NOT try a defrag or other cheep data recovery packages as they can further corrupt your system... unless you have backed the system up or decided that any thing is better than nothing...

Now if you were in Brisbane, I would be only too happy to image, backup and see what can be done... But from a distance, this would be hard to manage and further more; you do not give any time frames...

Let us know how you go...

    Thanks Angermanagement / KK
Rescuing my data wasnt the issue, its just the fact that the corruption wouldnt allow the sony utilities to bring the unit back to a factory install from the internal partition as the unit wasnt aware there was another drive internally.
And i didnt make a set o recovery disks for it before it went belly up.

Looks like i will have to contact Sony and see how i go.

Let us know how you go as it would need to be a reasonable error, depending on how Sony manage there recovery options... On some systems it is just a hidden dir and on some it can be a hidden partition.. Thus depending on the error and the cause... Repairs can be a bit hit and miss.

In hind site... Make an image of you full system if possiable... Acronis is good and easy to follow.. Like many systems has a few Quirks but overall better than most. A boot CD will allow you to back up to an external drive (networked or USB) and then you can always do a restore... Depending on how your VISTA lic is set up (BIOS can be an issue) it should be fine...

    Re: Sony Vista Drivers

    Hi there
My trusty helpdesk guy spent the time and tracked down a set of drivers from the sony asia website so i now have the utilities etc running as they should.
Only issue now is that the graphics driver wouldnt run so we need to find that, a job for tomorrow.

    Vista?

Sorry to say, but VISTA is the most unreliable, unprofessional, and complicated bit of software to be found. Why would you bother?
What ever you do is likely not to work.
And if it works, its because you have spent 1000 hours trying to figure it out.
For the amount of time you spend sorting things out with VISTA, and if you value your time, you could have bought an Apple together with a matching iPhone.

Go and have fun, sit in a coffee shop playing with your new MacBook Pro, and enjoy technology over a nice cuppa.

Dont bother with the VISTA PC - its no fun.

If you had an APPLE we would not be having this conversation, and youd be out enjoying life.

Or just dont upgrade to Vista.

A friend of mine still prefers her Windows 98 (shes an IT geek).

Well that was about the least objective assessment of Win Vista I have ever read. You gave yourself up as a Mac fanboy in your last sentence TK.

I was using Macs since the mid 80s so Im not ignorant nor based against them and, recent quality problems notwithstanding, they deliver on expectations - if that is what you are looking for.

I checked out Vista in Jan 2007 with a pre-release copy (not a beta version) and found it quite stable with some annoyances (e.g. UAC) and some nice enhancements (e.g. Start Search). However to describe it with "What ever you do is likely not to work" is utter garbage.

Personally I havent bothered with it as I find Win XP is perfectly capable of doing what I need, not because Vista is unstable or doesnt work. The worst you could say about Vista is that there was very poor driver support when it was first released and, of course, you are pushed into the hardware upgrade necessity as Microsoft has always intended.

The biggest problem with Macs is the value for money aspect and with such a small market share there just arent enough software developers out there. Id be happy to own one but my Win XP and Linux boxes meet my needs quite nicely thanks. I have a Mac here at work if I need to use one (and I rarely do)

    Re: Sony Vista Drivers

Gee did i open a can o worms (what fun)

Happy to say all is working fine, found the right graphics driver and all is well, in fact the machine is running way better than it was. I disagree on the Vista Bashing, dont get me wrong, i dont plan to roll it out to all the 300 users at our company but this is the first issue i have had since i started running with it last January.

Who is to say the issue wasnt caused by hardware or a combination of both or possibly that fact that the machine is constantly on the go every day, in and out of bags etc. The sony diagnostics on all hardware reported fine so i am happy to give vista another go.

And for you one eyed apple freaks ;) out there, why in a corporate sense would i go and run a iphone where i have to configure any lockdown of data usage so that the company doesnt pay for users downloads. Corporately our download costs would sky rocket as a result of rolling these units out across 120 users.

yes they are a nice package but are they worth any additional effort from an IT support view when our department is already stretched to the limit and doesnt need anything else to worry about.

    My 1 cent worth

I concur... XP has its place and I guess VISTA for some... In our area there is no way they can manage VISTA and the restrictive SOE that is required... Like many large companies (many Ks of uesre) or government groups, by the time the SOE is developed, the next OS is released...

As for MACs there might be a small niche market but other than deep sea sounding devices... I have yet to experience it other than some graphics apps ;D

Sorry had to toss that one in... ::)

Oh... but I do like the TV adds...
