I thought it might be fun, and a nice thing to do, to try a little "pay it forward". As some of you are aware I have a little (some might say excessive) collection of grinders.

In amongst them is the zassenhaus pictured below. Its in working order, though quite old and has done a fair bit of work. Id like to give it to a CSer...no charge, and Ill even inculde postage, so long as you live in Oz.

There is a cost though - the recipient needs to do something nice for a fellow CSer. This isnt meant to be a competition to out do each other. Maybe we could even keep it in the coffee theme? Ill leave that up to you.

In the meantime, is there a CSer who would like this?

It would look great in the shop,

Andy lives fairly close by maybe he and the kids could come

    down for a meal?

In fact even if the grinder has gone I would be happy to Pay it forward and offer a meal to a CS that pops in

    Craig .

Looks like you have got some attention there Dennis! You may have to set up a competition to see who will receive it. A 25 words or less creative writing task as to "why you deserve this grinder and how you will pay if forward?" ;) ;D

Or you would give it to me for giving you the competition idea ;)

Hardly in the spirit of the concept of pay it forward though.

Eeek - I only have one to give away, so think the fairest and simplest thing to do would be to give it to the person that responded first.

Coffee Kid - did your :) mean that you want it? If so, please pm with your address details and Ill post it on Monday. Otherwise, I think Craig is next in line.

Im sorry to disappoint everyone else who has responded - I hope that in time youll get something nice in the mail.

CK, all you need to do is think of something nice to do/offer for another CSer and post it in this thread - the person thats first to respond gets what you are offering.

Hope that makes sense and is OK by you - if so...pm please!

Coffee Kid, aside from Dennis pay it forward scheme, I just wanted to say that you do very nice things for other CSers just by being on this site. Its wonderful to see someone so young be able to give such great advice to older people, particularly with milk frothing, latte art and Solis machines. I always enjoy reading your posts - you show so much enthusiasm for a relatively non-teenagerish hobby, and you obviously have some very strong barista skills. My only concern is whether you get enough sleep at night with all that caffiene. :)

Mods, I realise that this is OT, but Im guessing that Dennis wont mind me hijacking his thread to say this.

    Hey, great idea Dennis.

Now, do we have to wait for someone to take up Coastal Coffees offer or can anyone now come on and offer something up to pay it forward?

Perhaps i came up with the idea, but certainly dont own it - I think it would be nice for anyone to use this thread to make offers.

And Coffee Kid, you have to know that I agree with the comments made by the other people here - you are an incredibly valuable member of the CS community and talented too! If you decide one day to compete in championships Im sure youll be ultra-successful!

Re: Pay It Forward (the original, historical, archive thread)

Ive got some Pay-it-forward credits already from all the CS who donated beans to the Autism Assoc. Fundraiser. Now that the fundraiser is (almost) finished I am going to pay it forward by helping this family fundraise for their son who has Muscular Dystrophy and needs a Coughing Machine to help him survive.

I figure we can call the campaign "Coffee for a Cougher"

    Better suggestions are welcome!

from what I gather...Dennis out of his good will has offered something (a hand grinder)...Dennis sent it out free of charge to another member...that member now has to do something for someone else....and the ball keeps on rolling.

Ive graciously accepted to visit Costal Coffees cafe sometime in the future for a bite to eat....maybe a month from now in Torquay...I have put up 200 grams of green Cuban coffee (hard to come by after hurricanes).

Ive got a Pay it Forward...

I have a spare copy of the Sydney Coffee Guide. (Dont knock it! Its handy if you want to know where you could go!) I had planned to give it to someone else but that plan fell through.

So, if youd like to have a copy of this book (the latest edition) let me know!

    Gday all,
Heres a little pay it forward, the only gotcha is that its only for people with a Rocky grinder, sorry.
I have the parts as per this thread in my possession.
    http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1147430557
If any Rocky owners would like these parts, 2 nuts and 2 studs, (Rocky grinder not included ;D) all you need is some Loctite. Send me a PM with your name and address details and theyre yours.
    All the best.

Wow, there are actually a few "Pay it Forwards" that seem to be on offer. Nice to see that were a generous lot who dont like to just bludge off each other! :D :D

So, the way I see it there is going

    200grams of Cuban green beans
    1 x Sydney Coffee Guide
    Parts for a Rocky Grinder.

So, any one want to be a taker??

    Hi all,

Re-stirring this thread as its gone a little quiet and a fellow CSer has recently done me a favour.

As a pay it forward Im offering a Bread Maker. *Details are outlined in the image below. *The cost to you is $0, including postage (i.e. free postage to you within reason ~ prefer east coast). *The only requirement is as outlined by Dennis in the original post:

the recipient needs to do something nice for a fellow CSer
Ive cleaned the BM up (was pretty clean to start with), its not new ~10+years old, only baked bread and kneaded dough. *Its probably of a better quality than many of the newer ones and was made in Japan. *It is working, though it appears that a 25 minute wait is in order before it starts spinning ~ Ill leave that to the taker to work out and perhaps Frankenstein to suit.

Time for Talk Coffee to pay it forward as well...

2 x compact designs tampers (58mm)- one black and the other red. They are 1mm convex...

These are a whole heap better than anything that might have been thrown in as a freebie with a machine purchase. They are solid, 420gm and have very good ergonomics.

Free to the first 2 takers who promise to pay it forward to other CSers
