    Ipswich & Surrounds

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Hallelujah, Ive found a good coffee shop in Ipswich and can start a thread on our sunny side of the river! If anyone wants to add any more on to it, feel free - I figure & Surrounds includes everywhere from Wacol onwards out to Warwick and north to Toowoomba and down to about Camira.

So, my first review of a local:-

    Casual Coffee
    339 Brisbane Street
    Ipswich QLD 4305

    (Next Door to Spotlights)

Ive now had two coffees from this shop (its on my way home from work!) and both were really well made by two different ladies. Selling and using Di Bellas beans, the staff obviously took pride in the establishment and their coffee.

Latte art was practised, even though it was in a takeaway cup (12oz) and a lid was put on by the barista, but she obviously still took pleasure from doing it regardless. Shots were of a good strength and well extracted and milk was a great texture and temperature.

All the good practises of a decent establishment were in place (ie; cleaning of milk wand, keeping area clean and tidy, etc).

I also purchased 250g Dibella whole beans as my roasted stock at home was almost out and the beans were fresh and lovely (although not my favourite Arnika blend, of course) not sat on a shelf in plain view for two months as some establishments do that Ive been to in the past in Newcastle.

So, I can thoroughly recommend Casual Coffee.

Im still exploring the surrounds and have been recommended to a few different places, so Ill start (hopefully) putting some more good reviews up as time goes on.

    Cheers

    Re: Ipswich & Surrounds

Had a coffee at a newish Place on Saturday - FourthChild, on Brisbane St, just up from the Ellenborough St intersection.

Really nice coffee made by people that knew what they were doing.

Probably my only gripe was that they had squeezed way too many bits of chunky wooden furniture into too small an area, so getting to the counter to order was very awkward.

Because of this, I couldnt see what they were using machine & grinder wise because the were fairly hidden, but I guess its all about whats in the cup that counts, and I was pretty impressed.

As an aside, they were mentioned in the Courier Mail the other day with a couple of other Ippy establishments.
