My first exposure to these guys was at the Good Food and Wine Show and having sampled just about all the coffee there they came out on top (but it wasnt really great company...).
I visited their shop recently and my impressions are that they are doing a mix of old and new. Traditional style dosing, but grinding on demand and roasting medium/light. They went to a fair bit of trouble, tasting shots until they were happy with the way it was presented until serving.
In the cup the crema is a bit light and there isnt much body but the flavour is smooth and pleasant with some character. Not the big hit of flavours one would get with updosing or ristrettos... Maybe a place to start for people not used to espresso?
No issues that I could tell with sourness or bitterness. The volume to my eye and palate was also far more appropriate to the dose than some in the coffee wasteland.
Their Italian style blend was far better than I would have anticipated with a nice robusta funk that has me interested in looking at that a bit more.
As I came across a discount coupon (sorry, no longer available as far as I can tell) I will post some more when Ive tried a few more of their coffees (quite a few available) on a different day and sampled some more of their beans to get an idea of their roasting. The first bunch I had wasnt bad but Im not really a fan of most blends and it seemed to me that the Emporio I tried had a fair bit of the Brazilian in it that I also bought. There are also roast dates on all the coffee up for offer.
