    Hervey Bay-Bean Beat

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all!

Just thought I'd let you know about a place I came about whilst in Hervey Bay today called Bean Beat. A hole in the wall type place at 351 The Esplanade, Hervey Bay this place has one SO and the Di Bella blend. Very quick and friendly service.

Being a barista myself, it's always hard to not take notice of the technique so when I saw multiple tamps and taps I got a little sus. Anyway I asked for a double ris COE Brazil flat white which was actually quite full bodied and chocolaty despite the technique. Glad I got a double ris though! According to my mate, the standard COE flat white was quite milky.

A nice place to come for quite a decent cup if you are around!
    Happy hunting!
    Michael

Had the same experience but more worrying was the full doser and the habit of the barista to tip the waste grinds off the mat back into the doser coffee was better than most in the bay though

But am sitting in lillians just up the esplanade enjoying my second double flat white

This is a proper outfit, 3 group nova simonelli with the house blend on a robour-e (the only place I have found in Hervey Bay to grind fresh) roasted on site range of coffee prep stuff for sale and to top it all the bacon and eggs on Turkish where very good

Recommend to any Snob travelling/living in Hervey Bay

Lillianas rock!! We found Lillianas when we were in Hervey Bay last week. Got a bit worried when the waiter asked the missus if she wanted her latte extra hot. When the coffees came out my doppio was very smooth a the missus latte was perfect. I guess they might get complaints about their lattes being too cold so it is a good question to make sure the drinker is happy. They do a great breaky too!

The last time I was in there I listen to the guy selling the machines giving a honest review of the BES 900 v the Musica

Dennis down at Lillianas has had complaints from people wanting their coffee hotter, I think he finds it a bit hard to pander to their needs to be honest. This is the only roaster in the Bay and for years I bought off them until buying a Behmor a few months back. Deli Bay café, opposite the Scarness jetty and though not the most inviting looking place to sit and have a coffee, is also pretty good. I've only ever seen the owner working the machine, very comforting. This guy's son opened up Bean Beat as mentioned at the top of this thread. Both places use DeBella. If the owner of Bean Beat (early 30's shaved head) isn't working the machine, try it at your own risk.

Just a little update. Deli Bay is still as consistent as ever, never disappointing. When they're closed I'll grab a cap from Beanbeat if I don't have time to head home and make one myself. Still can't get over the logic behind saving a few cents worth of ground beans by pouring the spilled grinds from the tamping mat back into the hopper, hard to bite my tongue, especially when I see them grinding on mass not demand
