Anyone roasting using one of these?
Anyone got it talking/being controlled by the Artisan software yet?
Yeah so I got one and have done some pretty good roasts on it - just following the Greg Pullman video on hottop.com.au
I've tried to save my roast profile but it didn't 'seem' to be doing it - but the last roast I did it was definitely adjusting the heat but not the fan for some reason. Weird. So I did get artisan talking to the roaster and I get a nice plot of a roast. (see attached)
Just after 2 mins it switched the fan on which I quickly turn off and at around 5 mins it briefly turns the heat down which I crank back up to 100% (or the program does this for the heat as well when I am running my saved program) Dumping the beans just after second crack starts and I'm getting CS11 roast. A world of difference to my Behmor roasts.
Anyway, interested to hear of anyone using Artisan to control the roaster as it doesn't seem 100% straight forward to me.
The fan turning on after 2 mins - I think that's automatic to get some of the moisture out of the roasting chamber, it will happen on any profile. The turning down after 5 mins - that may be something in the profile you're using?
I think Greg's videos explain how to store profiles after roasting, there's a small window to do it after you empty the chaff tray?

Yes it's automatic. It seems that when you save a program it's only saving the heat setting. The turning down is in the auto profile which gets saved. As I turn it back to full it's only down for a minute and the profile saved adjusts it right back up as well.
Yes - I can store profiles. I think what is confusing me is the profile is stored on the basis of time not temperature which is a little useless.
Anyway I'm looking at trying to get Artisan to work in a full control mode as this seems to work on temperature but it's all a little cryptic so far.

Eventually got Artisan running and controlling the roaster and it's a thing of beauty. Best thing is I can set it to control the roaster based on temperature not time.
I have found this is incredibly consistent and first crack happens between 184°C and 188°C every time regardless of ambient temperature etc.
Looking at Greg's video where he runs the KN-8828B-2 (manual one through it's paces) and I wrote down the triggers he was using to roast, then emulated that on the 2K+
Pre-heat till 75°C then add beans
At 100°C run fan on 75% for 20 seconds
15 mins on timer, 140°C reduce heat to 70% and fan to 25%
13 mins on timer, 165ºC heat 70%, fan 50%
9 mins on timer, 180ºC heat 70% fan 75%
7 mins on timer, 195ºC Heat 40% fan 100%
1:50 on timer, 202ºC end roast
So I've been following that except I'm turning heat to 40% and fan to 100% at 190°C instead of 195°C
Seems pretty good but I'm interested in what other people think is their best profile.
