Behmor 1600 Plus - Bulb blown after only 2 weeks!

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi guys,

Recently entered the brave new world of roasting. Huge thanks to Andy and BeanBay for the 10kg of assorted beans that are slowly becoming my friend.

My new roaster has blown it's bulb after 6 roasting cycles (2 weeks in) and just wanted to check if anyone else had experienced this? Should I be concerned?

Are these easy to replace? Any advice really appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Yep, piece of cake...

Contact Andy via the link at the bottom of the page to arrange for a new lamp.

I have heard that letting the door slam closed can cause the bulb to blow?

    Easy to change.

    Cheers

Just check that it is only the bulb that has blown, and that the afterburner is still coming on in the second half of the roast (it'll be pretty obvious if it has gone).

The following specs for the replace bulb worked for me (think I got it from Bunnings...can't remember).

    25w E17 240v Pilot Lamp

Thanks everyone for the help. Just to clarify, I actually bought the Behmor from one of the site sponsors - but the awesome beans came from Andy.

I had done a roast since the bulb blew and I didn't notice anything different and roast worked well so hopefully all is okay with after burner.

In terms of replacing the bulb, do I fully remove the two screws to remove the glass cover? I saw someone comment that they had trouble getting the screws back in and recommended not taking them fully out but the Behmor Online guide seems to suggest taking them all the way out to remove the panel. Just wanted to check on how someone else might have done this.

    Thanks again.

I took the glass out recently when I did a full clean of the roaster. The light was still working but I wanted to clean all the chaff out from in there. I took the screws all the way out and then found that the glass was actually quite a tight fit so be careful not to break it trying to get it out. The screws were easy to get back in, just pay attention to which is which as they are different sizes.

Yep, the burner will be fine if you've done a roast since the bulb went and didn't have a problem with smoke.

To Be honest I've blown so many I've given up replacing them... current machine bulb blew like yours after 2-3 roasts. It was so bad it tripped the circuit breaker. I thought whole unit was a goner but it worked fine apart from the bulb. Replaced twice more any they lasted maybe 6-7 roasts before they went bang.

Love the machine still, you won't get a better value for money roaster.

Thanks AtomicGrog, that's something I feared and am now thinking I might not worry. I'm still super new to roasting and whilst it would be great to get visual feedback easily on how the beans look so far I've been very happy with gauging things by the sounds of first and second crack and then playing around with timings from there.

Thanks again everyone for the awesome and swift response. Much appreciated.

Possibly a dodgy batch of bulbs got into the system...

Might be worth trying the replacement lamp referred to by Barry above - "25w E17 240v Pilot Lamp"
    May be more durable.

First time using the forum. First post. Have had my Behmor roaster for a few years. Roaster is not roasting like it use to. I have read thru some of the post & I think it may be the after burner. Bulb has gone too. Tried turning on machine the two elements at the back of machine are glowing red, but couldn't see anything on the ceiling glowing red. I want to be sure before I order or replace any parts. Is there somewhere I can see photos of what is what in the machine?

Better off starting a new thread for these issues mate - More than a Light Bulb issue I think...
