    Gene Cafe saved by avacuppa

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
My trusty ten-year-old Gene Cafe roaster stopped working recently with an E4 error. Disaster, I thought. (I really didn't want to have to go searching for a new roaster, let alone fork out funds for one. And I can't remember where I put the popcorn maker I used to use )

Thankfully the disaster was averted. I found that it was the heater assembly. Avacuppa sells spares. It took a little while, but thanks to YouTube I was able to replace the part and it's all working again.

I don't know how long it will last, because while disassembling it I noticed a crack in the plastic on the side where the heat comes through. Hopefully it will be able to survive a few more years.

I was in Bunnings today and saw some silicon tape that can take up to 260 degC and another brand that can manag 200 deg. It's in the duct tape section.

Thanks, flynnaus. What excellent advice. I'll get some and see how it goes. The crack doesn't seem to be all the way through so a patch job might be enough to keep me going till I win Tatts

Um... Is Avacuppa still operating. I asked genecafe for a spare part and they gave me a supplier in NZ for parts! Blower fan stopped working.

This is interesting. Avacuppa do appear to have gradually drifted out of the scene and I see that their website has now completely disappeared. I have had some success in the past by speaking to Mr Avacuppa directly to discuss problems with the Gene and source parts. You can probably access that mobile no. by googling Avacuppa. Good to see a higher voltage Gene is now available on BeanBay. Be great if spare parts also became available. Good luck with your search. I’m curious to see how you get on. Steve

CoffeeSnobs is distributing the Gene Cafe in Australia
    Gene Cafe Australia

It's mid process at the moment, we air freighted in roasters at Christmas (expensive!) and the rest of our order is via sea freight. Container arrives in the next week and should be at the Snobbery soon after that.

We have a small smattering of parts here that arrived airfreight on Monday (so I guess that's why KR sent you to NZ as they wouldn't know yet)

Parts are crazy expensive, the fan is listed at US$33 but once converted and GST added becomes AU$49 and should be even more if freight to here was calculated properly.

There's one in your basket now Jitsukablue. You can add to the order in BeanBay or just checkout and select a freight method.

    PS:
We won't do this in the thread again, anyone else finding this post in future please use the [Contact Us] and we'll check the parts inventory and get back to you.

Wow, thanks Andy. I should check the forums more frequently. I actually already bought and paid for the NZ supply as someone happens to be hand carrying it back for me
On a side note, the OEM fan part number is obsolete :O so I'll be trying to fix mine too.
