    Bread machine paddle problem

    Hi guys, I've been having a problem with the mixing paddle on my bread machine. It tends to ride up on the driveshaft, leaving a layer of unmixed beans below it. Maybe this isn't a problem, but it seems to me, the agitation would be more effective if the paddle would stay on the bottom of the pan. My question is, have any of you had this problem, and how did you solve it? I have thought of trying JB Weld on the top of the shaft. See picture in link.

    I had a similar problem, removed the shaft paddle assy and drilled a hole through both and inserted a split pin, fixed.

    Can even drill and tap a hole on one side of the paddle and then use a fixing screw...
    Split pin sounds pretty easy though.

    Of grab a strand (or 2, or...) from copper wire and insert into paddle recess and force onto shaft. Might provide enough friction to keep it there.

    I drilled and tapped for a set screw, using a bench vise to hold the paddle while I drilled the hole. In the process, I must have tightened the vise too much because the paddle was very difficult to get back onto the shaft, and now has a hairline crack in it. However, the paddle is very secure with a set screw, problem solved...thanks for helping this American!

    Hi snowboarder93

    If it causes you problems in the future . I've had troubles with the paddles when making bread with my bread machines before. I purchased a new paddle assembly from the manufacturer and fixed my problem.

    I had the same problem some years ago. The paddle would work its way off the shaft routinely. Along the lines of what artman recommended, I flattened a piece of copper wire into a shim about 3-4 mm wide by 20-25 mm long, folded it into a "U" shape over the top of the breadmaker shaft, and forced the paddle back in place over the shimmed shaft. It has stayed in place through regular roasting use for about ten years now. I've never had to touch it again. (Before trying the copper shim, I had several times made aluminum shims from soda cans. These worked okay at first, but the aluminum never lasted more than a couple of months.)
