    professional roaster

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
I intend to build a small 3-5 kg coffee roasting machine basing on the solutions used in a bigger professional machines. Unfortunately there is very little information about the construction of such roasters as Probat, Diedrich and others alike.
Is there anyone who is in possession of a small shop roaster e.g. mentioned above Probat.
Could you share some photos showing the technical details of the machine.

    I am especially interested in:

    1. How the heat (coming from the gas burner) is transferred to the drum.
    2. The shape of drum vanes.
    3. How the chaff is collected and carried out of the drum.
    4. How the drum is mounted to the chasis

I would appreciate any pics showing the inner side of the roaster.
    Thanks in advance

Hi maciej and welcome to CS!

The questions youve asked are very basic. Have you really given this much thought or seen the roasters youve mentioned in action? Anyway, answers below:

    1. How the heat (coming from the gas burner) is transferred to the drum - radiant heat and heated air

    2. The shape of drum vanes - varies from one manufacturer to another

    3. How the chaff is collected and carried out of the drum - also varies from one manufacturer to another, though generally carried out by air flow

    4. How the drum is mounted to the chasis - axle

I have a 3kg Diedrich - your welcome to come and take a look at it...from the outside only!

I think youll find that there isnt much information available because these are registered, proprietory designs. Copying without permission wouldnt be appropriate. I think youll find that roasters respect that.

How about coming up with your own design?

    Hi Maciej

    Check out this thread http://coffeesnobs.com.au/YaBB.pl?num=1208786097/15

This is all about development of a 1 - 2 KG roaster and they are throwing their ideas round at the moment, its in its early stages at the moment.

If nothing else it makes for interesting reading and shows potential of when great minds work together.
