    Bar 9 - Adelaide

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
Had a brief stop-over in Adelaide this week and after hearing the name mentioned a few times I stopped managed to pop in for a coffee at Bar 9. I was told that this was the second week of their soft launch (seemed a little weird for a soft launch to go for two weeks?) but despite that the coffee was outstanding. Syphon, drip, cold drip, synesso and even a really old lever machine were all available.

Coffee by 5 senses and I was thoroughly impressed.

Ians had that many headaches with getting Bar9 up and running that nothing would surprise me anymore! :-[ Plumbing, electricity, gas, council, landlords, you name it hes had it, poor guy. I think it was supposed to be a week for the soft launch originally, maybe something came up. But at least hes getting coffee out the door now, and by the sounds at the sort of quality wed expect from a state Barista comp champion! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Finally got the chance to visit here on Monday...very impressed! Tried a syphon and a soy latte, and loved it! My wife even preferred the latte to the one she had at Liar Liar (but only just). Ian is a friendly guy too. Very nice place, well be back...

The doorway is a standard width door, Id be guessing 800mm and I think a single step from footpath into the doorway. Not insurmountable by any means but the chair would probably need a helping hand getting in and out. Apart from that should be fine.

Dropped in here after work a few days ago, and tried some of their Ethiopian Nekisse, which as a SO espresso was very nice.

Great little cafe to sit and relax for a while. Caught a glimpse of some old levers sitting on the bench down the back. Old rancillio gear maybe?

I was recently at bar 9 during my coffee trip downunder. Ian is doing a great job. I love the experience of having a great coffee and being able to chat with the barista at the same time.

Was only able to squeeze in a visit here on my trip to Adelaide this Easter break and I must say that it was excellent.

Both the strong latte and doppio espresso that I had were excellent despite what looked like tired faces from the 2 boys behind the counter.

Ive recommended it to my friends in Adelaide who have been complaining about the lack of good cafes there.

Look forward to going back again the next time.

Dropped into Bar 9 with my partner yesterday, quirky little place with lots of cool coffee contraptions to keep your eyes entertained, had a nice vibe this place and had been recommended to me by a work collegue. Tryed the siphon, what an interesting and labour intensive process I enjoyed the nicaraguan, I mentioned to the barista daniel that he wouldnt want to get and order for 20 of those come in at the same time ;D

Met Ian and staff member Daniel, nice blokes who prepare great coffee......made me a fantastic latte also.

    Recommend you check it out!

good luck with the move to the other side of the road guys(few weeks time?)...bigger premises I understand?

Just so everyone knows - they moved a couple of days ago.

So if you stop on your way out of the city, youre now on the wrong side of the road!

New Bar9 location is on the opposite side of Glen Osmond road, and maybe as much as 100m closer to the city.

Yup. And my (embarrassing) distance posting has one extra zero in it - maybe as much as 10m closer to the city is what it should have said :-[

    Very spiffy new place!

Ian is another who has made big statements in Adelaide. He also started off in a little dinky size shop and even though he has moved into bigger premises, he is bulging at the seems with ideas and customers and quality. Well done Ian, keep up the good work.

Bar 9 continues to deliver consistently excellent coffee, be it espresso, syphon or pour over.
Unfortunately they have mothballed their lever, which is disappointing as the rich syrupy pours were divine. While the ristrettos from the Synesso are excellent, they do not come anywhere near what their lever used to produce.
Overall, a must visit for anyone in the area. The service, as always, was excellent.

Bar 9. 96 Glen Osmond Rd Parkside. Specialty Coffee Bar & Café. A very busy place when we stopped by in late March. A committed coffee establishment with a fantastic warm vibe. Excellent welcome and service. Coffees superb. 5 Senses coffee. Park in Kenilworth St at the rear and it is just a short walk through to Bar 9.

I tried Parkside 5 months ago and was impressed but just missed the new Central opening by a week or so.

Got back to Adelaide a few days back and got to try the new location as well as the original.
The coffee is just as good at both.
Also tried a fantastic lemon curd cheese cake at Central. Mmm mmm.
