!!!SOLD!!! - Fs. Ulka ex5 pumps. New $25ea

Gene Cafe Coffee Roaster $850 - Free Beans Free Freight
    Hi all,
I have a few ulka ex5 pumps for sale. New in factory box, unused. Manufacturing date is Nov 2016 or April 2017, so nos.
These will replace a ek5 pump too, the only difference is the brass pump nose (ek5 is plastic), otherwise straight upgrade.
I was thInking to share them around here before bumping the price and putting them on eBay.
$8 postage anywhere in Australia in a postpak with tracking.
Couple of bucks from each pump sold to faircrack.
Multiple pumps, I can do better on postage. I have more than the 3 pictured...

    Hi Jackster,

Can these pumps be used in em6910s? They look like a drop in replacement. I've just purchased two which both appear to have steam pump failures. Figured that instead of pulling apart and attempting a repair, I'd just replace them with better units.

    Cheers,
    Nick

Yep, they will drop in to a 6910 as the main pump. Only difference is the brass nose on my pumps compared to the plastic on the sunbeam pumps.
But... They are not a steam pump. The steam pump is a smaller pump. Probably, your steam pump is fine, it just needs a massive descaling through the steam system. Have a browse around, it's been covered many times.

Check your main pump flow. It should be putting out around 300ml in 30sec. Mine flows nearly this much, but only after I removed the valve above the shower screens.

6910 pump compared to the ex5. Same same, but better!

And pump flow chart..(possibly sideways for you desktop guys. Sorry.)

Back in town. More pumps posted out yesterday and faircrack donated to also.

Still heaps left...can use these pumps to run a high pressure mister in the beer garden to make it heaps cooler out there. Way better setup than a tap pressure mister. Also misters works better in Kalgoorlie than Port Hedland.

I expect so. I haven't ever done it though. Would involve a bit of plumbing and wiring and a opv. Maybe some other bits too. I am fairly adept at making things work.

I would swap you a new vibe for your damaged rotary pump and motor (depending on its problems).. They are rebuildable, or can replace damaged parts

Yours is in the mail cafelotta.
In town for a week or so, so can generally get pumps posted same day as payment goes in.

PayPal are charging me $2 for using them, so I will request a buyer cover that cost if using PayPal. Sends the cost pretty close to the cheapest eBay ones, which sucks, but at least faircrack get a couple of bucks too.

    Hi Jackster,

I have had a look at it seems that these are a replacement for a Rocket Giotto circa 2009, in your wisdom is this correct? What is the difference between these and the Fluid O Tech pumps? There is a reasonable price difference on a parts website. My pump still works but it's quite loud and I figured it might need replacing to keep things fresh! The price is attractive too!

    Cheers

    Matt.

These are not a plugnplay replacement for a fluidotech. Apparently there is also a diode in the connector that would need removing.
I will link you to a discussion that suggests they are pretty much equal:
CoffeeGeek - Espresso: Espresso Machines, Fluid-O-Tech or Ulka on Francis X1

Are you not sure if you have fluidotech or ulka? Scroll back up the post #1 and compare to yours.

How to know if your pump is due for replacement:
flow test it. Specs are that it flows 600ml in 60sec. You should be testing with no restriction, but try it with just the shower screens off (showers screens shouldn't be a restriction, but sometimes they are full of garbage).
Press your brew button, wait for preinfusion to finish and then start catching the pump flow. Time for 30sec and then measure water. Should be close to 300ml...
If it's less, check for air bleeder that might need blocking (ala sunbeam 6910, 6900 and others) and retest, or disconnect pump and test it with a pipe fitted into a container.

I haven't opened the machine to check what pump is in there, however I just did the flow check and it was 39 seconds for 300ml.

So about 240ml in 30sec, probably in the ballpark considering opv restrictions and everything else in line. I'd say it's ok! (If it's a ex5)
Up to you to replace it or not, can't confirm these pumps are quieter, yours may have loose mounts or be banging on something...

Thanks Jackster, I opened it and it looks like an Ulka, maybe I'll leave it alone then of you reckon it's okay. I'm still considering a spare pump at that price though.

Pump arrived after a game of Auspost ping-pong - WA to Vic to WA to Vic.

I suppose they wanted to ensure it was well and truly delivered by doing it twice!

These pumps are very good value, normally around $60 retail.

I ordered one from Jackster as a spare a while back, only had it a few weeks and the pump on my Bezzera gave up the ghost, must have known something.

Have just ordered a second so I have a spare on hand if and when needed.

Jack is a good guy to deal with, communicates and posts promptly.
